Run 1819 - 21 January 2012
Runsite : Saujana Utama
Hare: Philip Feer and the "Longhouse"
Scribe: Choo Nai Kwong
The run was held along the fringe of Saujana Utama, an old and familiar running territory. A crowd of about 80 somehow managed to find their way and the JM gave the verbal diarrheoa of how to behave yourselves in the jungle.
Apparently I was the only Chinese present as Chinese New Year would be two days away. I had no choice as I was the scribe. On-on was called at 4.30pm sharp and the run started into the secondary forest. Within 150 metres, there was a first check and it took about 10 minutes to break. The run took a 12 o'clock direction into some scrub land, then veered left-right into the second check.
Together with Donald Pharamond, we broke the second check which was cleverly laid down the valley on the left. We then broke into palm oil and thereafter it was a runner's run through undulating terrain and along the pathways. The sky started to darken and there were few raindrops.
The third check was a big circular broken down the gulley on the left and there were two other checks which I can't recall now because it has been some time. The runner in was 1 hour 29 mins with the rest coming in not too long after that because the checks were good. All in all, it was a good run in a very familiar territory.
At the run site, I bumped into fierce gay boy and asked why he didn't come for last week's wonderful "sau kung" run. He said that he was down with a fever. He continued to mumbled something which I can't remember because I had to leave early.
[next bit from On Sec]
OnOn was at a well known restaurant in Sungai Buloh and the dinner was very well attended as the hare had to request extra tables. Some 7 dishes were provided and for a touch of Switzerland, the hare even gave one bar of Swiss Lindt chocolate to share. What a a nice touch !! Terimah Kasih Philip !
For all his effots, this "virgin" hare was given a T-Shirts for an excellent run. All the Sarawakian who set the run with him were definitely pleased of their coaching ! On On
Run 1818 - 14 January 2012

A superb venue was chosen for this 2012 edition of the SauKong run ! Great parking and nice view over the fish ponds, with restaurant nearby and surrounded by hills. A first class spot, despite the lack of mature trees, which at 4pm on a sunny day, caused many a hasher to start sweating early.
JM John launched the pack at 4:30 sharp and fortunately for us we started ascending the hill under the cover of trees. The run twisted and turned, roughly following a previous Mantin Hash run and getting more and more Broga like as the track went on! After 30 minutes of similar ankle twisting terrain, the lack of running trail became a sore subject with most front runners. We finally emerged with views towards the valley and a short running trail on a wider path to reach home.
Hares were at the end of the trail, welcoming us with prosperity lions and cameras flashing! At the edge of the site, the sweet smell of roasting lambs stirred our primeval cortex with thoughts of rewards for the successful hunt. And then, when the Chef finally started to carve the prizes, we all lined up (some of us 2 or 3 times) for one of the best roast lamb ever ! Gary Murrell was spotted (and digitally captured) chomping on a huge bone in the back of his vehicle !
When the deed was done and the bones scattered, the lions took to the field and showed kids and adults how to pick oranges to the sound of deafening drums.
Then the lions had to lay and the JMs called the circle to order and sinners were rewarded with gulps of the yellow nectar. The long line of guests uttering their names and phoen numbers tested the patience of many a member while pesky sand flies and mossies had an early dinner and toasted to our health.
Fortunately, the Chinese had brought in their fireworks master and salvos after salvos of fireworks illuminated he night skies, in patterns reminiscent of the 2008 Beijing olympics.
The On On being just a short 200m down the hill, we all drove there and jostled for parking. There the hares had arranged for the ever popular Yee Sang to usher the year of the dragon before an array of other dishes were brought to the table.
Despite the run having received mixed comments the hare was given a T-shirt for arranging such a fantastic hash day and outing. Thanks again to the Chinese community for the sponsorship and good cheers!
And to round off the evening the hare offered us a very cute memento of his son's wedding ! The hash ladies loved it !
OnOn to the year of the Dragon - which, by the way, really begins on Feb 4th !

Having been press ganged into setting last weeks run, being the scribe this week is a poor reward (although many may say its fitting!). Anyway, here goes.
The run directions enabled most to find the run site on time, although the logic of zeroing trip meters at the start and then giving distances from each corner on the route defeats me [Chinese logic lah !]. On arrival on the runsite we were greeted with heavy lorries charging through churning up lots of dust, but there was a good view of the Twin Towers in the distance.
Prior to the run the GM appeared to give the usual instruction that typically nobody listens to, although there was some mumbling (possibly in Danish?) about a normal (8 km) and long (12 km) run. And so we set off up and up and up a steep track in the baking sun. Somewhere in front the FRBs 'broke' the first check and so the rest of the pack just blindly followed paper. We came to a split with lots of triangular paper (the short run?) to the right so that's where I, and numerous, others went.
Then the heavens opened and we dolefully watched the paper, which had been carefully laid in the gullies, being washed away. We came to a break in the trail, which seemed strange, but it soon started again so on we went until after about an hour we reached another 'split', but this time with Long and Short signs. "Ah ha" we thought, we and everyone else is doing the run backwards! After some debate several bedraggled groups decided to continue running backwards to return to the run site. This we reached after 1 1/2 + hours, and so for us a nice afternoon's exercise.
The 'long' runners faired much worse and some only came staggering in after 2 to 2 1/2 hours [we are told another hash did the same long run in 1h30min flat; PH3 is definitely on the down curve, but the heavy rain certainly may have created some challenges] . The sight of John Lavelle lying nearly unconscious in the ditch besides the runsite almost resulted in a Casevac helicopter being called up. Others were in not too much better condition and in a poor state to party until dawn.
Anyway, eventually all returned safely, although only about 25 managed to stagger to the ensuing circle, which included down-downs by the GM for:
• Prof. Jim for buying an inferior chair, which collapsed at the circle the first time he used it. He was also charged with being an exhibitionist for wearing matching lime-green shirt and sandals.
• The 'horny' GM for not only losing her horn (a painful operation I gather), but also her bag about 8 years ago. Since then Nim Chee has been using it, but now it is worn out he decided to return it.
• Patrick R, who was the last runner back because 'en route' he was having gratuitous sex with a monkey.
• Thanks were given to Isaac for not getting lost - because we would never have found him in the dark.
• The On-Cash, for not signing people back in after the run and doing only 50 percent of his job. There were calls for the immediate return of Emelia from her 'sex tour' of Australia.
• The hare and co-hare for agreeing to set the run at 1 weeks notice during the holidays. Many thanks.
• Gary Murrell (by John Belgrave) for alerting the lechers that a woman was showering wearing only black knickers. It turned out to be Dave Parks!
• Jerry French for being so hung over that he was drinking only milk.
The returnees were welcomed and included Dr. Melissa and family, David 'tattoo' Jenkins, Nimbo (?) from Jakarta and Mike Howarth.
Finally, the hare was unable to give us coherent directions to the Tiam Fatt restaurant in Taman Melawati, but 40 or so managed to find it. After a nice meal Part 2 of the circle included down-downs for:
• Saru, for doing too much work on behalf of the hare.
• Alec (from somewhere behind the Iron Curtain) for earlier not owning up to being a visitor and also for being a virgin. He came with John Lavelle who, after oxygen and heart massage, had recovered sufficiently to join him.
• The hares, for screwing up a beautiful run (or should it have been the FRBs?)
• Me, for diligently taking notes in order to write this report.
• Awan for looking like a ponce and taking excessive care over his appearance.
• Dr. Melissa and husband for wearing brand new gear, including shoes.
• The Arse On-Cash, for providing a poor translation of the directions to the NYE party.
That was it for me (and I gather a number of other exhausted souls), so I went home to have a glass or two of wine and watch the midnight firework display from my balcony.
