Run 1722 - 13th March 2010
Run Site: Bandar Technology Kajang
Hare: John Lavelle
Co-Hare: Choo-Choo
Scribe: Rob Stott (with additions by On-Sec)
The run was not in the usual place for the Industrial Park but accessed from a turning earlier on the right. Parking was on the roadside on the roads leading to Taman Harmoni, close to the golf course. There were familiar faces missing due to the rival attraction of the Nash Hash in Klang, but what Klang taketh, Klang giveth back, so numbers were boosted by an influx from the American Navy courtesy of the USS Bonhomme Richard berthed in Klang. (how do the Americans know French?) There were six sailors (Commander John, Mike, Mike, Glen, Mike, and petite Jessica with the big hair – gender equality has reached the navy) and a couple of marines (Mario, soon to be renamed Man-Bag, and Will). There were also 3 Swedes (fast Stefan, Michael and Katrine) plus a Norwegian (Bjorn-Ole "Born Horny" Myklebust) who had only stopped drinking at breakfast time. We also had friendly faces returning, like Alyvia, now with a happy smiling face, Piers and Chwen who have realized they cannot afford to skip hash after committing to do that crazy Hash Challenge on May 1st (however, Chwen has to try harder for he was so tired after the run that he had to take a nap in his car after OnOn at Zuan Kee!!).
Emilia had arranged a few hashers to give lifts from KLCC for the ship-mates, so they all arrived very early (Emilia’s contingency planning), which gave Mario and Will time for a can or two of Anchor Strong (good choice!) before the run. Luckily they were wearing camel-baks (more on that later) to re-hydrate during the run.
For almost the last time (AGM delayed again), Sen led the pack away down the factory road to where the trail splits, right across the shitty river to the moonscape or left into the bush. Left it was, and into overgrown scrub, and then halfway up a hill to a check. Commander John (who had hashed before) pulled rank and sniffed it out to the left (Navy 1, Marines 0) and called OnOn before running on to find the next check. Here he was tricked by a nearby falsie on down the hill, and was so disappointed at our dishonest ways that he stuck with the main pack for the rest of the run. One of the marines (Mario?) solved it down to the right (1-all) and the pack strung out with some good running down a wide track and then left to a check near a small stream/ditch down in a flat area. This one took a while to solve, until a wise old hasher remembered which way to go and the marines ran up to solve it (Marines 2, Navy 1).
We got into the oil palm and reached the road leading to Sungei Tankas. Here was a check which had the pack guessing. Right to Sungei Tankas and a run back via the golf course would be a long run. Eventually the check was broken almost back the way we came and into familiar territory where we have run from the other site. We approached the big hill but the paper was skirting around the side to a check. Colin Hercus bit the bullet and checked up the hill to be rewarded with finding paper – up, up and more up. On to another check in what used to be an open area with the young bucks (including Mike and Glen the young naval officers) having overtaken the old farts to find the check. Abraham checked back, joined by Soh Kam Eng. After checking there for 5 minutes I returned and found another track to check, which Richard Moss usually uses into this area. Amazing that after all this time none of the FROP’s had looked there. Paper was found and we continued climbing in the direction of home. More familiar territory as we approached the area of the old run site and then turn for home, over more moonscape and then the road home. FRLOP’s were Ajar and Carafino (she is back at her element), but hung-over Born-Horny wasn’t far behind.
As we got to the beer wagon the Gods must have been angry, for with a big flash the heavens opened and we were treated to shower strength rain for a good 30 minutes. We thought one of the sailors (one of the many Mike's – the one who never takes his headphones off) was lost after the run, but he'd just followed the wrong back-runners, and also rescued a stray dog. Overall a good run in a restricted area that’s becoming more restricted year by year.
At the circle, there were a lot of new shoe charges, starting with Dave ‘heartbreaker’ Wilson for blinding us with his hideous new day-glo yellow monstrosities. Then one of the sailor Mike’s drank out of the new shoes he’d put on after the run, and Mario decided he wanted to have a go despite wearing old shoes. Sen was indicted for running a banana republic, with all his delayed elections and attempts to change/ignore the constitution to suit himself, and his junta of finance ministers (Emila and Alyvia) were also called up by the revolutionary mob. The guests were invited to sing Village People’s ‘In the Navy’ and various Abba songs, but made little effort. The circle finished fairly quickly due to the threat of more rain, and most people made their way the short distance to the On On.
Here there was a very long time to wait for food (menu too complicated for the chef?), which gave time for more festivities. Of note (or at least remembered) the charges were:
- Mike (one of the tall sailors) dancing to all the hash songs (something we’ve never seen before), but not wearing a hash shirt, and being forced to wear Maria’s very very tight girly top (not sure what Maria was wearing at this time, but hopefully someone has a picture);
- Mario being named “Man-Bag” due to the camel-bak he takes everywhere, even keeping his purse in it;
- Glen trying to show off to all the hash girlies with his well-toned bod;
- Man-Bag getting even more excited (luckily Glen was there to restrain him – that’s why you always need two marines!);
- Will being named “Born Horny Jr”, after claiming that he can’t ever remember not being horny;
- The 3 Swedes singing Abba songs very badly.
After such a run and evening, there was only one option – John the hare was awarded a T-shirt for his efforts.

Run 1721 - 6th March 2010
Run Site: Sungei Sendat Waterfall (Off Ulu Yam Bahru)
Hare: Rob Stott
Co-Hares: Mike Moore and Gary Waring
Scribe: Guinness Khoo
About a hundred runners were in attendance. Worth mentioning were three returnees, Rachel who is tired of looking at sheep in NZ, John Holmes, who heard the Tigress, namely Helen 2.0 (who is at or is it on the run?), and Greg Bridgestock, who misses the short cuts in Malaysia.
Unlike last week’s the weather is more than bearable. The start saw the gaggle of hashers heading for the river crossing for a short climb in the open valley to the first check just before the jungle line. Hashers were everyone checking up, and then down in the valley but not at the track parallel to the river as if heading for the waterfall.
To the frustration of the FROPs who were searching for the elusive papers up the hill, papers were on this track. Yee Kwai Hoong and Dennis Chin were seen heading there when the on-on was called fifteen minutes later. Trail looks like an old logging track, which gradually climb the slope across some bamboos before entering a jungle track. It is at this time that Charles Lee, Dave Settergren and Colin Hercus, previously in the front pack, started to over take the climbers. Though Winnie Chew was doing quite well, she decided to give up half way as recently she had a minor nasal operation. At a T–junction the trail went left going uphill (turning right would take one to the waterfall) and it felt never ending to get to the ridge. At this stage Chai Leng, Juliana and Ah Wan decided to double back.
Check 2 was placed on the right, but trail continued on the left. Compared to the old days this trail on the ridge is quite nice. This gave the runners a short space of time to express themselves. After a hill, there was Check 3 at a junction. Going right will lead to new unexplored territories, but papers went straight in a northerly direction. At the oil palm, there was Check 4 which looped left for Bundoora Estate, and coming very close to the Hot Spring. After the last check, Check 5, it was the home run by the river. Mynn Tan who started late went into the run in this trail and was seen wetting herself.
Ajar was the first runner in at about 06:14 pm, followed by Cliffena who started running quite late—more about her later.
Circle started at 07:30 pm and it lasted for half an hour. Charges came from the GM (Sen Soon Mun,), Hugh Murray, Choo Nye Khong, On-Sec (Laurence Renshaw), and Paul Kirkman. Worthy of mention are (not in particular order):
• Sem and his committee for postponing the AGM by a week to 20/03 just because some of the members had other better things to do
• Rob Stott the hare receiving so many brick bats for setting the run an exact copy of last Thursday’s run of the PJ Harriettes where he was the master mind co–hare and having given the assurance there were no Thursday members in PH3. Laurence even had a limerick for the hare
• A lady for not wanting to cross the stream as she ran out of tampons and had trouble buying some
• Nassar Rasool for being targeted by security as terrorist. Maybe, they thought they could conduct a pap smear tests on knowing she is not a stranger to such testing
• Yoong Nim Chee for trying to show off his GPS navigation skills which ended up in disaster
• Isaac Pakianathan for being ignorant of “Gale Warnings”
• Nini Davis the orgasmic runner. Patsy Yap watch out, you have a competitor!
On–on was at where else but Hock Lay. By the way, the Hokkien word for “hock” means prosperity. Could “Hock Lay” means getting prosperous and get laid? Six tables were occupied and the spread came to RM12 per head. The restaurant’s signature dish of Tom Yam Prawn in Coconut is just as good as ever.
The restaurant Circle, another half an hour affair, conducted by the GM and ably assisted by charges meted out by Dave Settergren, Bob Morgenthaler, and Paul Kirkman, Again, not in any order, the following on–downs were given:
• Guests and returnees. The men were disappointed when the lady in black was thought to be wearing a non–hash attire but later revealed she had a Full Moon T–shirt underneath
• Nancy Kirkman for letting her hair down the previous night she did not even remove her mascara while coming to the run
• Cliffena for being super fast even though she was late at the run. Her reason: a leech was chasing her
• The Settergrens for being instant parents
• Fathers who are too insensitive—David Scourse and Paul Kirkman
• Helen Brookes is back to the fold as Helen V2.0
• John Lavelle for holding up other cars in trying to practise his parking skills. Mike Rickard was appointed as his look alike to on–down the golden nectar
• Gary sportingly agreed to have Tiger–egg–drink for wearing an unusual bandana in the form of a plastic bag at the run
• Guinness Khoo for demonstrating chivalry is still not dead.
In spite of the hoo-ha regarding laying the same trail as the PJ Harriettes Run, Rob Stott was awarded a T–shirt. Jeremy French did not repeat his performance like last week.
Rob, thanks for the camaraderie!
On! On!

Run 1720 - 27th February 2010
Venue: Ostrich Farm, Semenyih
Hares: Guinness Khoo & friends
Scribe: Patrick/Ilona Russell
It was another very hot day as we headed out from Ampang, over the top and down past the Seminyeh dam to “Ye Olde Ostrich Farm”. On the way we passed Nirvana, also known as “the dead centre of Selangor”. Turnout was good with c 100 cars at the run-site despite “only one HHH sign” – but we were warned and this is hardly an unknown location for the HHH
Several ‘rare’ faces were seen including “Chan Larry Chan” from the UK with slightly less of a wash-board stomach than he used to have. Too much warm ale, obviously. Also Nick Grantham, who was never known to have had a wash-board stomach anyway. And the lovely Emma and even Greg Dall who has now been to two runs in a row! A post 9/11 record, I think.
Also rather a lot of dogs, which some people disapprove of but I think keep away the snakes not to mention parang wielding watch relievers etc. As long as they don’t bite any HHH’ers.
And so into the rubber and up the hill. It was HOT, HOT, HOT – thankfully the hares kept nearly all of the run in the shade. There was a slight lack of over-taking opportunities especially in the uphill sections which meant your scribe – starting late as usual - spent the first part of the run stuck behind a big, bouncy, female backside. Unfortunately it belonged to Indi, the Kirkman’s dog…..
And so it went – more up, more down, more round and about. The run was nearly all rubber with a few welcome streams for HHH’ers and dogs to cool their feet in. As you would expect from a Guinness run, there was plenty of paper and no excuse for anyone to get lost!
Overall, this was a relatively short run only 6km but sensible on a very, very hot day with clear skies and the temperature hitting the high 30C’s (that’s almost 100F in old money). And it was pretty hilly albeit with no killer-climbs.
So it seemed much longer. Seldom was the beer wagon more welcome and the 100+ was glugged down at a record rate (note to self – must remember to invest in F&N shares). Front runners were back in under 1hr 20 with the pack quite close together around the 1hr 30 mark.
Around 7.15 the circle was convening when the skies threatened to open and your scribes having put in an exceptionally long day with a 5 am start for a Saturday morning recce, called it a day and headed for home.
However, the rest of the scribe report would probably have read (delete as appropriate) [filled in by Onsec]
There was a circle - which [started late due to prolonged heavy rain and] went on a bit too long
There were 4 / 5 / 6 tables at the On-On. The food was good but had too much MSG [The food was FREE - thanks to the hare]
There was another circle at the resto - which also went on a bit too long
The hare did /did not get a T shirt [DID get one]
There was / was not a triple on which was / was not at the Backyard
Another good Saturday afternoon out with the PH3!

Run 1718 - 13th Feburary 2010
Venue: Tasik Kesuma, past Semenyih

The trail led up a gravel track and into palm, then down across a causeway over the lake. We followed the lakeside round into some scrub and up a small clearing to the first check on a track on the right.
Alex Yoong was first to reach the check and predictably checked forward, circling the rubber hill, while others checked left and down. Guest Andrew found paper down the clearing leading back down to the lake and then right into a small valley. The paper led left out of the gulley up to palm and then left away from the stragglers near the first check.
The trail followed a green stretch through the palm to a grassy road with another check in a valley to the right. Most runners went forward or up the terraces easily finding paper several terraces above. Meanwhile several stragglers short-cutted through from Check One.
After an easy climb to higher ground, there was a third check at a road near the hilltop. After checking the obvious road options paper was found a few terraces down over the hill. This lead further north then down and looped back. After several serpentine S’s or W’s the trail led across an estate road and westward to another grassy-loopy road and southward toward the 4th check. A few runners guessed wrongly that the run was going anti-clockwise and fell for the falsie to the south. True paper was found on a track leading toward monkey country and the inevitable scrubby circular check 5 at an old rubber hill.
Alex was again leading at this point and battled the dust, heat and trees around the circular, arriving back near the elephant ditch where less energetic souls found a welcome shortcut to the long road home. A small diversion and a three more checks were broken easily but served to slow the front runners slightly, keeping the pack closer. The final run back down to the lake was an easy grassy track, then across the causeway onto a short hot final stretch to the run-site.
50 runners attended, with many Petaling hashers away for CNY and Nenasi. Several guests from UK, New York, Canada, Netherlands, and Bulgaria. Laurence’s Dad visited and walked as far the first check or two before lying down for half an hour to cool down.
Professor Jim was on-downed for combining his birthday and a cheap anniversary, offering his wife a run for the occasion.
Three tables enjoyed a CNY meal at Zuan Kee where the Hares were On Down for a run judged to be a very good Tee Shirt.

Chinese New Year - Sau Kong Run
The afternoon started ominously with rain clouds hanging over the distant horizon as I set off for this Sau Kong Run of PH3.
Things were still holding up as I arrived at the run site, a bit delayed by the traffic caused by Duties being exacted by the Polis DiRaja shortly after the giant golf ball along the old ipoh road.
The pack had set off by the time I arrived leaving me and a few other late comers like Soh Kam Eng and Father Abraham.
And then the heavens opened and it rained and it poured. All this as the trail hit the first climb at which point I came across Jo and her 2 faithful companion deciding that the hill was too steep and with the rain too slippery and she was right.
I soon caught up with the rest of the pack but not enough to be able to report on the checks and how and when they were broken.
The run then split with the short run veering left and the long run to the right. The long run was good offering great scenery and nice running right until home base. In all the GPS recorded 10.1km on the long run.
Back at the beer wagon, the hare had arranged for the distribution of free commemorative t-shirts to coincide with the coming year of the Tiger. Great t-shirts!! I could not stay for the on on and so am not able to report on the official rating of the run. But going by the comments made in response to the posting by the hare of the photos taken of the evening (http://picasaweb.google.com/alvinph3/CNYSauKongJaoRUN5thFeb2010), which clearly speak for themselves, the run would have been rated excellent which I wholly agree with.
