Run 1417 : 8 May 2004

Venue : Taman Teknologi Kajang
Hare : Chris Boyd
Co-Hare : John Duncan
Scribe : Jonathan Wormwell
Comic : Peter Brooke

It was one of the sunniest days KL has had all year, which made for great running conditions but meant that a space under the “shade” of two lone trees at the start venue was “hotly” contested between adults, children and numerous dogs. Mia Hercus’s Rottweiler soon let her know that he didn’t appreciate her leaving him in the sun while she sat in the shade. He used her as a pissing post!

Luckily for the 80 or so hashers that turned up the run was started promptly with no further incident.

The trail initially wound through tall palm and past a fluorescent green pond. The first check came about five minutes into the run and was easily broken.

The next stretch was through long grass that an elephant would have had trouble pushing through. The 2nd check was somewhere on the other side of this grass and as a consequence, the pack was as one again.

The trail then went through a rubber plantation. Unfortunately this run site was very popular this week with both Mother Hash and Batu Hash running it mid week and Kajang running it an hour and half after Petaling, which meant that this section of the trail was strewn with paper from four different chapters. It did not matter a great deal however as the trail was very clear and easy to run.

The next couple of checks were well thought out, and saw the usual front runners in a state of confusion, darting here and darting there. The checks were eventually broken, with the walkers at the front and the FROPS at the rear. Poor Thomas was like a startled gazelle trying to navigate through the bodies to take his usual place at the front.

The final section was uphill and then a nice flat finish through palm. There were many positive comments about how pretty the site was – this was despite the fact that some sections were more like rubbish dumps than palm plantation.

The front runners were finished in just under 90 minutes, with Amelia coming in about an hour later, she claims she was not lost and was just enjoying the scenery.

Special mention has to go to the hare, Chris Boyd, who paid for all the food at the on-on (five tables worth). Chris was celebrating 30 years of hashing and decided it was his shout! Thanks Chris!
