Runsite was good though I could see a mega hill and was cursing my luck. I have to scribe this run? But I do not do hills!!! Maybe I could delegate but GM and On-Sec said "No, no. You have to do it yourself. Patrick's not allowed to." Heh, heh. They did not say anything about dictating!!
Contrary to expectations, there were not many mosquitoes. Maybe it is all the bonfires going or maybe it was bomoh Dennis Chin with his little candle strategically placed in front of his Kancil. Quite a good turnout too with some returning absentees like the inseparable sisters, Lena and Sarah, and the Dalls.
GM flagged us off on time. From rubber we followed the road till the first check. Why people were checking off the right - where there is no hill - beats me!! Obviously optimists. Heard the hash bugle on my left - blown by none other than my handsome husband (dictated by Patrick no less - just this sentence - so far). My apologises to the hare and co-hare. That's the only check I know of. The run went up and up and up the hill. It was nice even if I had to catch second, third and fourth breaths. I was convinced that I have hiked up Mount Kinabalu. By the time I got to the top, I was the last runner. Then it was downhill. Do not know which is worse, going up or coming down. Anyway, I had Dan Percival in front of me. Handy when one has to break one's fall. Dan must have been relieved that I kept my footing.
From rubber it was onto open space with young oil palms. Though it looks easy enough, it still took whatever energy I had left to make it through. I was determined not to be the last, so I sprinted - sort of and managed to pass some hashers. Lo and behold, Nick Mason then overtook me. I was that good? Or is Nick on his second run? Then it was ballet practice time. Arms out, best foot forward going down this dry, loose stone downhill trail. Got down safe and hit laterite road. Gossiped with Yoke Chun, teasing her about her hash challenge
registration and the next thing I know, I am back at the runsite.
Do not know about the rest, but I quite enjoyed it. On-On at the Bak Kut Teh Restaurant at Bank Teknologi. Five (5) tables - must be a record
turnout. Food was good except for the intestines and livers - sorry, but not my type of food.
