Run 1426 : 10 July 2004

Venue : Ulu Tamu Hot Spring
Hare : Yeo Me Kio
Co-Hare : Parang Gang
Scribe : Ilona Russell

Got to the run-site on time for once and regretted it. Grandmaster approached me and said “ Ilona, you are still good friends with Helen Brooks, aren’t you?” Stunned, I replied “yea”. “Good” says Grandmaster, “you’re the scribe for today’s run.” Found out later that the O-Sec made a mistake. It should have been the GM himself!!!

Anyway, weather was great for running. Not hot and not raining – though it might have rained the night before. Just before starting, a tourist bus pulled up with Don Cheang onboard with a busload of “Hash tourist”. Turns out, they were from Surabaya, Indonesia, and wanted to participate in a hash run.

GM called out and everyone trooped into a fruit orchard, cempedak more specifically. Nice aroma. 1st check (and the last that I can remember) in the orchard with on-on being called further to the right – more orchard. Than it was scramble on all four and slide down side of hill and up to tarmac road. There was a loop here that I conveniently missed! Caught up with some runners going down and then it was up the hill, which I swear is vying for highest mountain in Peninsula Malaysia! Had to stop umpteen times to catch my breadth. If you go up then you must come down. Down, down, down slipping all the way. Since I was one of the last few, you can imagine that even the branches were covered with mud. Not much help. Then came the split; to the right for the insane, etc, i.e. the long run; to the left for the cowards. Mum did not raise a fool, I took the short. It was a lovely run back to runsite on the tarmac.

Circle did not begin until after 7.30pm. So much for the new ruling. Charges for Terry for not being able to work the generator, Patrick for wanting to use Amelia’s butt (you should see what he does to mine!! Maybe not), someone (name?) for using the chilled water out of the beer tub to wash his shoes!, etc.

On-on was at the Lucky Lite at the intersection. Eight (8) tables! Fantastic. And who is that I see at one of the tables? Guinness Khoo – long time no see at on-ons. Reminded me of the good old days when I was still young and single. Lots of singing from Opera and gang Had to attend to one of the Surabaya runners who thought that she had a mega cut on her foot. Turned out that it was only a leech. Food was great though I doubt that Ima agreed with me. Did not stay for the on downs. Sorry-lah.
