As I made my way to Kajang via the newly completed highway to Semenyih, I thought the directions sounded familiar. The ‘Ostrich Farm’ signpost on the right confirmed the fact that we had a run in or about the same vicinity a few weeks (or was it months?) back. When I got to the right turn off into dirt track, however, it dawned that this was a different place. Guiness Khoo was just behind and there was narry a soul at the runsite save for the handful of ‘kiasus’ who came early to ‘book’ a good spot.

The rest of the group drifted in within the next half hour and Emilia was at her usual post eyeing up the guests. There appeared to be a group from Bangkok (if they’re here for the Bandar Maharani run, they’re at the wrong site, but what the heck..) and Ah Wan, for once, was accompanied by a male hasher of Japanese origin (sori, forgot the name).

The hares were almost too kind..start the run having to cross the stream, then a rubber estate uphill. Reached the top and had to go down almost immediately, crossed a muddy stream, and up another hill. Further up ahead, the third check beckoned in yet another rubber estate, and On On was called. We started up, only to have to turn back when someone called ‘false’. Back at the check, the back packers were meandering in. Took the opportunity here to catch up with the gossip. Turned out to be a longer check than usual as even Emilia and Maya, with kids and dogs in tow, were around to exchange news.

More waiting around , must have been some 20 minutes passed by now, and with no progress in sight, Peter Brooke or was it Alex Yoong who declared it was a ‘sc…-up’ and begun to lead the troop back. Up the top of the hill, someone gave the On call forward, the rest debated whether to continue home or finish the run. So there it was, the group did a split here, I for once, opted for ‘Home’ and followed Nah back the way we came.

Lots of dissection and discussion later, the FROps came in from the run within good time. So there it was, sorry I didn’t stay for the Circle or the On On for good reason: no spare tyre, and hate driving in the dark! Perhaps those who stayed on could fill in the rest of the details, but anyhow, I did enjoyed the run up to the last check and many thanks to the Hares for their effort.
