Run 1616 - Mar 01 2008

Venue – Broga Temple
Hare – Lee Heard
Co-hare – Don Cheang
Paper Boy – Rambo
Scribe GM (well for a few more days anyway)

A scribe report and a bit of a GM column combined.

Broga Temple – third time this year for Petaling, but my first time and I can not remember coming back here since one of the first hashes I did (New Years Day Run 1996 if I remember and hot toddy from John McCawley)

The day began wet; not a good day for a hash wedding, one of two other events that was competing for our packs time, the other being a run in Bukit Kiara. Both of these events were designed to split hashers from their hard earned money (wedding gifts and pledges for the new hash house) and therefore it was probably not a surprise that a pack of about 90-100 still managed to assemble for our regular run. Also to be noted that looking at their faces at the lunchtime wedding session, both Alistair and Ronnie had parted with a large amount of hard earned cash the night before to the benefit of WIP and Tiger and were in no fit state to run in the afternoon.

After a hard rain shower at about 4:00pm it had virtually stopped by the time the run actually started promptly at 4:30pm. For those using a 016 telephone we had our own “Digi Man” in the form of Richard Thompson and his yellow rain coat. After a very short downhill section in open rubber the trail took us uphill to the first summit and first check. A splendid view from here back down the valley. The path then wandered slowly downhill to another back check – at least that is what I think judging from the fact that a lot of the pack was coming back towards me.

Over a ridge and then down to the fish ponds where a clever check, a high fence and locked gate keeping the pack away from the paper 10m away. Well until Greg Dall managed to find a way under the wriggly tin part of the fence. Trail quickly skirted on and then off the manicured temple grounds before climbing very steeply up the old rubber terraces. Half way up a horizontal path allowed a few of us to escape the terraces back into the temple grounds where we could follow the tarmac road to the top of the hill to meet the rest of the pack who had continued scrambling up the terraces - another excellent view from here.

Shortly after I came across another back check, which I decided had not been cleared out properly and would be likely to lead Dan or Emilia astray. I had better plans for the evening than a rescue party. So went back and removed a lot of paper and relayed it in the correct direction. I then carried on and for half an hour did not see anyone, Started wondering if I had made myself the back marker and my efforts might be in vain, however as we started the descent into the dusun, I was caught by some of the late comers including the usual suspects of John and Chu Chu. Suspect that there were a couple of more checks

I took about 1˝hours for the run with the front runners in 1hour 10 minutes.

I was informed that Rambo was not really involved in this run, and only turned up as he had finished his hash challenge recce early, so he was given the onerous task of carrying and throwing paper.

Got back to my car to find Les S and Tony K in conversation with Les telling Tony that he may have come in first but he was fat and ugly – well Les all I can say is that you are fatter, uglier and slower!

I called for an early and quick circle at 6:45 as knew that some people wanted an early get away for wedding session No.2. I promised those that remained that I would not stop the beer immediately after a short circle. A large number of charges resulted in the circle finishing well after 7:30. Probably the stand ou charge being that of Donald Pharamond, who had decided because of the earlier rain that the wet T shirts gave him opportunity for a bit of Tit watching. (Not female tits but male tits). This charge was enhanced by the fact we got Donald when he was showering and therefore able to show off his tits – not very impressive.

ON ON was nearby in Broga at The Mine Restaurant, 5 tables in all and good food made all the more pleasant by the hare announcing that it was a free ON ON. Light rain after the meal did not deter the table in the open from staying put for the circle.

After a debate on whether the GM was suppose to use his full powers while in office and therefore was required to award the one and only 10 weeker of the year. The run was awarded a deserved T-shirt. (for all those that missed the run you still have the opportunity to see it awarded as the hashadashery with T shirt was missing. Virgins and Guests were honoured and then a few more charges and the circle broke up about 10:00, although I am informed that some continued until way after midnight.

I left and went back to Mike and Belinda’s wedding – congratulations.

Now to other things.

You should all have received notice for the AGM, which will be held on 8 March, including the accounts and Onsec’s Report. We actually made a small surplus this year, mainly due to the good work the previous committee did at the end of their period of negotiating a better deal with Guinness Anchor for our beer. We did have to forgo a visit to the brewery but this was easily offset by the financial saving to the club. Presently we have nominations for all positions, however this does not stop other nominations on the day.

Looking forward we have two big events this year the Torchlight Run on 28 June 2008 and Hash Challenge on 18 August 2008. If you are able to help out at either of these events I am sure this will be appreciated by the organiser’s, myself for Torchlight and Don for Hash Challenge.

And finally I would like to thank you all for your support through out the year, especially the hares, coheres and those who have helped on our runs. It is good to report no 10 weekers this year, only a couple of toilet seats, and probably the majority of runs getting a T shirt. I must also thank all the other members of the Committee, if you have read your Onsec report you might like to know that Dave Settergren has managed to double his meeting attendance by coming this week, and finally I need also to thank my wife Win Chew
