Leaving KL at 3:15 a quick decision needed to be made on which way to go as recent weeks Jalan Kuching seems to have been particularly busy. In the end decided to play it very safe and used Bukit Beruntung, Rasa, Batang Kali way. This is considerably longer than the Batu Dam way, but good roads and a lack of traffic still means that it takes less than an hour to get to the site.
By the time we arrive at site the heavy rain on the way has abated to a light drizzle that lasts throughout the run, making a nearly ideal temperature for running but with the negative effect of being very slippery underfoot. A smaller than normal turnout with many regulars incuding the GM missing. After the JM, Tommy, has introduced the guests to the pack the run gets underway back towards the gate before crossing the paddock and through the stream, we are now in Ldanag Batang Kali estate and only about 0.5km from last weeks torchlight run but that is as close we get to that trail. The first check was broken to the right. As we run along the path we are brought to near halt where the clearing of land above the path has dropped fallen trees across the path and for a couple of hundred metres and we scambled around and through the branches.
Somewhere along thios path there was aparently a second check that took the FROPS up to the ridge, but the middle of the pack not being sheep had carried along the path and already found the paper as the check was being called.
The third check was a circular which I arrived at as the FROPS came out of the other end and thus avoided running. It was here that my run on paper finished as I waited for darling wife, as having only just recovered from flu she would not be at all amused by what was in store for the pack on the seconf half of the run. (In fact she would not be amused even if she had not just had flu).
Having been here before I can summarize the second half of the run as
It went Up
And UP
And UP
And UP
And UP
And then it went
Down
DOWN
DOWN
DOWN
Oh and it was slippery!
So while the pack was doing its thing I walked the wife back along the nice flat path back to the cars.
Front runner was finished in 1 hour 27 minutes and there followed a steady stream after that, with many who were not in the racing (FROPS) brigade stopping a couple of hundred metres short of the run site to ease their aches and pains in the Air Panas (Hot springs). The last person did not return until the circle was underway, Andreas but he was known to be in the hot springs so nobody cared!
There were various charges made, including someone (a man) fancying men with hairy chests; Tony Kampen for getting lost between the 16th and 14th floor of his apartment block.
Visitors and guests not attending the ON ON would have been honoured, but there were no takers, funny as most did not attend the ON ON.
ON ON was at Hock Lay, with the usual good food including Tom Yam Prawns in coconut. All for RM12 must have been subsidized by the hare – thanks Gary.
The run was judged a T shirt, which Gary wore as he does not have a hairy chest he felt safe!
ON ON was called at the back yard, but everyone went to Duta Vista for the live music.
