The weather was kinder to the hare this week compared to the previous week’s run that I set at Pulau Meranti. The hare admitted that he prayed very hard for a good weather or he may have hung a lot of chillies around the run site. Most the hashers had a marvelous time at their rendezvous in Songkla. Some came back with a new hairdo/colour, have a good massage I think … plus sumptuous food. I gathered from Gerard and Woon that about 16 hashers had a good run and food in Medan too. Some English and Aussies rugby fans chose to be a potato couch with their fixed eyes to the TV for a heart-breaking session. Later the English men were “honoured” at the circle. You Aussies try again!
The Grand Mistress also got back from Songkla with a new hairdo/colour called On-On at 4.30? Not far from the start, some of us were trying our mountain climbing skills when we reached an almost perpendicular short slope. Christina told me that she saw some nice roses on the left side that I missed. For about ½ hour we were walking in a single file on a narrow grassy trail and past two high-tension towers. We tried abseiling skills at the end of this trail. Just as we thought we would be running in an open wet area, we were climbing uphill and uphill. Someone was cursing and swearing at this uphill but I saw one smart cookie walking down hill. That’s very clever. I took a little longer to reach the laterite track that I thought would be end of a hilly slope. I was right – Angan wouldn’t be that merciful to the Hashers.
Hardly got time to catch our breath, we met another steep hill slope a few yards away. Some short cutters went right onto the laterite track ……
Donald and I continued the climb up the Salem High Country with some following behind us. It took us about 6 mins to reach the baldy top surrounded by the pine trees – like some guys with a baldy top with spiky fringes. We walked down hill again for a short distance that joins the trail the short cutters took.
The downhill laterite track was along the hillside overlook a valley where FRIM has undertaken some inter-cropping of medicinal plants and trees. The view was beautiful with open land and trees planted in neat rows. I saw a couple of cyclists trying their bearings around this area.
About 15 mins on this track, the run continued left down a grassy trail again. More trees were chopped down on the right for more inter-cropping I think. We reached the back of a school about 5 mins later and onto the road (Taman Desa Aman) for about 20 mins before reaching the home trail.
The FROPs reached home about 6.00 and the rest got back by 7.00. The hare was looking out for Emilia and Arun when he was told that they are still out there. They appeared at 7.35. After the KKB run, Emilia will not run without her bag full of gear. Probably she will stuff in more items later like raincoat and tent(?), etc. Emilia, you would need a partner to carry your heavy load but remember Less is Better! On the other hand, more is better when you’re lost in the jungle.
I’m not able to report on the checks as I was in the middle of the pack and the connections were completed by then.
ON ON was called at about 8.00 and the hare was asked to give directions to Restaurant Emperor – imaginary driving here. The food came at 8.35 but there were some stray ones hanging around the beer wagon helping Ramli to unload all the beer!
New members Maya and Woon were called up to the chairs. Maya has three hash names – Fake, Nympho and Bitch. She would use either one of them whenever it suits her “mood”. Colin, we leave it to you to choose the name that suits the right moments, time, moods, etc. Thanks to Daniel - Our Swedish visitors with some tongue-twisting names were called up on the chairs too. Don gave them a song. Nan announced that Don will be leaving for Baghdad for 6 months under the “Mercy Malaysia” programme. Don – we wish well and have a safe stay in Baghdad.
Angan (the experienced hired hare) and Gerard left earlier before the Hare and his other Co-hares were called on the chairs. Food was good and the run was awarded an ON Down!
