They have improved the parking at the Lagong run side, can easily accommodate 40 cars. Its was a sunny day, turned up about 80 person plus few guess. As usual, run started at 4:30pm, hills all the way up and the first check was after 15 minutes later, a false trail on right and took about 5 minutes to break the check. 2nd check was found half an hour later and there was a false trail on left . The trail was very clear easy to run and the third check near the home which lead by a down stream. The overall run took about 40 to 45 minutes, it was really a SHORT RUN ! anyway, a quite good run. On On On !!

The venue for Run 1411 mentioned “ ..Chamang Waterfalls…., Bentong” should have taken note of the Sandmine attached to it, as we set off on a leisurely pace (until we got to Batu Caves when it became a snail’s pace) on the KArak Highway enroute to Bentong. Having visited the aforementioned waterfall area, we were somewhat expecting something similar. Anyway the Hare, being true to his word, directed us to a ‘ Sandmine on the road to the Waterfall’ where a handful of cars were parked, all crowding for shade under the few clumps of trees available. The majority of hashers having opted to attend the memorial run for Patrick Coyle, not many were expected for this run.
At about 4. 20 , Heartbreaker Wilson drove in, did a quick change, flourished the guest list for sign ins and off we went. The initial trail was under the hot sun, and we were looking forward to some shade. A left turn took us up a steep 15 minute climb to the top, where the first check was called. It took us a good 10 minutes of searching around amongst the thorny bushes and trees before the connecting trail was located, after which I lost track of the directions as we had to focus on getting over the thorny and prickly hill slope. This was a feat reminiscent of past Rambo skirmishes…’nuff said.
We finally got to the bottom of the hill by doing a Tarzan swing down the steep slope, past a rocky stream and up again, leading us back to a rubber plantation and thankfully out onto a fish farm, where I was passed by Chu Brookes and others who were late. The trail got pretty scenic here; It was a pleasant change to be running in the open next to the lake where the sound of ducks and birds calling could be heard. The co-hares, members of the Bentong Hash fraternity were on hand to greet us at the top part of the falls, with the gleeful information that home was still some distance away. And so it was, the last leg was practically that…a 20 minute home run ….Gerard and company opted to hitch a ride back. First runner in at 2 hours 10 minutes, while the rest limped in within the next half hour to the grins of the Hare and his co-hort, Fuckawee.
With falling light and some late comers yet to come out, it was decided that the circle be conducted at the On On. At this point, we were given some specific directions, but promptly missed the turning, and found ourselves driving out of Bentong town. Did the next best thing , asking for help from the locals and this Chinese outrider with no helmet on a bike took us to the correct restaurant. JM Wilson and the rest of the hares finally arrived after the LAST runner had been brought out who turned out to be a guest and HIS guest.
A quick circle commenced, partly due to the fact that it WAS late and partly ‘cos the JM had his hands full with his parental duties. The run was technically a toilet seat but awarded an On-Down for effort and some good trails. The late guests and sinners (Gerard et el.) were on-downed , and we left just as the Bentong hashers were getting started. Thanks to the Hares for organizing the run and makan.

Lets start with some facts:-
1. I was not the hare the week before
2. I was not asked by the hare the week before to write this report
3. The inquiry by the GM at the runsite, after the run, on who was writing the report got no response.
4. The week after a hare sets a run it his duty to write the scribe report
5. If the hare is not attending the following week, find some one to do the report do not expect the Committee to fill in all the time.
A small pack by Petaling standards this week with normal obvious reason. There was to my knowledge no major clashing events that was taking our hashers elsewhere. So what could the reason be:-
1. The run directions were published very late. The hare had been informed that his run was coming up and when rang on the Sunday before said "Is it my run next Saturday?” “Did you get the reminders from the ON Sec?” “Yes, but I did not realize it was next Saturday.” Personally I think if you receive an email entitled “PH3 Run – 3 April 2004” with a text “Please can I have your run directions by 15 March 2004” I would have thought you could work out which day you were setting a run.
2. The run directions were “Crap” If you are not familiar with the area, and luckily we do not go here often, “Please turn off 2km before the petrol station” does not work for me.
3. Those who know the area (Those not affected by item 2) know it will basically up the hill, down the hill.
4. We have been having heavy rain most afternoons.
So to the run iteself.
ON ON was called proptly by the new GM, who had requested appointed Shan to carry the horn and close the checks. A short way up the road and then drop down to the river. Being a SCB and working on the principle that at Templer Park all runs go up a very long way before going down. Just proceeded to walk up the road, and sure enough just above the pond we find the paper. Followed paper for a bit until it veered off left – probably a back check so just keep going to find paper another 50m up the path.
Shortly after this Rob Stott says do you want to do the whole run or come and see the Communist hideout 1km off the track. Opted for the tourist thing and with our trusty guide found the dug out- no communists though. Returned in about an hour via the way we came. So did not see more of the run. If you think a scribe should know more see item 3 above in the facts. I am only wtiting this as a week after the run no report has been seen and not sure if anybody else will do one.
Front runner was in in under an hour and a half. But the pack came back in small bunches so maybe the paper not that good so rechecking had to be done.
Circle on site was run by the guest Bomoh Neil Campbell, and included doing all the visitors and virgins on site – before they could run away.
Charges included Patsy for sleeping all the way to the run site and Jimmy for tiring her out. Terry “I am not going to tell you what I did on the way to the site as you will make me drink” So we made you drink anyway. (And for those that are interested. Terry in is infinite wisdom as he crawled up to the Batu Caves turning in heavy traffic, trying to go to Batu Caves, decided to stay in this traffic rather go up the slip road rather than use the nice free flowing main road.)
ON ON was at the PJ Seafood restaurant, with some excellent food. The run was judged an ON Down.
