Run 1426 : 10 July 2004

Venue : Ulu Tamu Hot Spring
Hare : Yeo Me Kio
Co-Hare : Parang Gang
Scribe : Ilona Russell

Got to the run-site on time for once and regretted it. Grandmaster approached me and said “ Ilona, you are still good friends with Helen Brooks, aren’t you?” Stunned, I replied “yea”. “Good” says Grandmaster, “you’re the scribe for today’s run.” Found out later that the O-Sec made a mistake. It should have been the GM himself!!!

Anyway, weather was great for running. Not hot and not raining – though it might have rained the night before. Just before starting, a tourist bus pulled up with Don Cheang onboard with a busload of “Hash tourist”. Turns out, they were from Surabaya, Indonesia, and wanted to participate in a hash run.

GM called out and everyone trooped into a fruit orchard, cempedak more specifically. Nice aroma. 1st check (and the last that I can remember) in the orchard with on-on being called further to the right – more orchard. Than it was scramble on all four and slide down side of hill and up to tarmac road. There was a loop here that I conveniently missed! Caught up with some runners going down and then it was up the hill, which I swear is vying for highest mountain in Peninsula Malaysia! Had to stop umpteen times to catch my breadth. If you go up then you must come down. Down, down, down slipping all the way. Since I was one of the last few, you can imagine that even the branches were covered with mud. Not much help. Then came the split; to the right for the insane, etc, i.e. the long run; to the left for the cowards. Mum did not raise a fool, I took the short. It was a lovely run back to runsite on the tarmac.

Circle did not begin until after 7.30pm. So much for the new ruling. Charges for Terry for not being able to work the generator, Patrick for wanting to use Amelia’s butt (you should see what he does to mine!! Maybe not), someone (name?) for using the chilled water out of the beer tub to wash his shoes!, etc.

On-on was at the Lucky Lite at the intersection. Eight (8) tables! Fantastic. And who is that I see at one of the tables? Guinness Khoo – long time no see at on-ons. Reminded me of the good old days when I was still young and single. Lots of singing from Opera and gang Had to attend to one of the Surabaya runners who thought that she had a mega cut on her foot. Turned out that it was only a leech. Food was great though I doubt that Ima agreed with me. Did not stay for the on downs. Sorry-lah.

Run No. 1425 Saturday 3rd July 2004.

Venue : Subang Estate
Hare: Jimmy Leggett, co-hare Terry Gardner (alias Christy)
Scribe: Helen Brooks

Saturday afternoon and a short trip to Subang Estate (the usual area) for what was supposed to be a short warm up for all the masochists who had registered for the ballbreaker tomorrow.

Before the start everyone was warned to stay on Petaling paper, as the area had been well used recently, as could be seen by the abundance of “mother”, “P J Harriett’s” and “P J Animals” paper around about.
The run set off promptly at 4.30 and proceeded into the palm oil. Amazing that there is still any of the estate left considering the development that has taken place around the route to the run site and near the parking area, how long will this area last before becoming the next housing development in the Klang valley? The run followed a familiar anti clockwise loop and the open spaces and many tracks gave plenty of opportunities for shortcutting. Like in the tortoise and the hare Don Chang kept popping out infront of the runners urging them to go faster. Also one very rare occurrence was observed after the third check, after Paul Kirkman had led the front runners astray on the wrong paper, “mother sheep” was the frop for at least a hundred meters. About one hour twenty and the front runners were back at the beer wagon.
At the circle Terry was called out for not being a yankee doodle dandy for this “US independence day” celebration day run, and flying the union jack from his jeep. The yanks then tried to give a rendition of the “star spangled banner”, but most had trouble reading the words as they had been printed on their backs!
The Brits were all called up for letting the yanks have their freedom ( Not a good move, it should still be part of the Empire)
Visitors and virgins were welcomed to Petaling.
The run was then awarded a “t-shirt”, though I thought celebration runs weren’t supposed to be graded! (On sec, check it out) (On Sec’s Note – only Gazetted runs are not judged, these are AGM, Medeka Day and Christmas Run. It does not mean the hares do not get a beer as happened at this years AGM – Jimmy!)
However the hares were to be complimented for the provision of the On On, on site under a good covered setting. Traditional burgers and beans with a few extra dishes as well. Shame that Petalings newest asset the generator could not be persuaded to perform, but at least food was served at a decent time.
Don’t know if there was a triple on, or whether everyone decided to take their preparations for the ballbreaker seriously.
