First of all, I wish to thank all those who helped to divert the hash traffic to the run site the previous week after the road closure. Great hash spirit. Within ˝ hour of our SOS, Charles was sending SMS and Hugh was emailing everyone on the alternate route.
Leng Chai Jimmy in his patented bright pink T-shirt, red shorts and red hat was at the Toll plaza to flag down all the hash cars with the ground breaking news. Thanks guys. Rumour has it that Jimmy has been approached by Samy Vellu to provide consultancy on new outfits for the Toll cashiers. Thanks also to my co-hares, John & Sarah - we will get the medal run next time !
This week’s run was a 10 weeker from Run 1458. In the absence of the GM, both JMs and half the committee, On On was called promptly at 4.30 pm by Charles. Paper and pen in hand after failing to get a volunteer to scribe for me, we headed towards the river. Fell down in the river but managed to save the paper for precious run details. Of course, after the river crossing, the sky opened up and there goes the run notes. Here’s what I remembered of the run, though not in sequence – long climb up a never ending hill, sliding down slopes, passing two summer homes in the middle of nowhere with bountiful durian trees in the courtyard and the owner looking curiously at us. We crossed a swinging bridge, an extra long walk in the river, back into thick jungle, hills, cross river and back to run site. No idea how many checks, which direction we ran etc.
During the run, there was Maya running down hills with her two new toy boys under her arms and Cindy falling flat on her face, bounced up, smiled, waved, and continued running. I think the wine she consumed the previous evening was working overtime. Charles lamenting that he was unable to appoint a Bomoh for today’s run and Joe who was walking behind me and Ima during the long river walk, suddenly sprint past us at top speed. Lightning was heard in the far far galaxy and Joe was worried that the next lightning might strike the river and electrocute us!
Circle started with on-downs to Wolfgang, Patrick and Hugh for turning down the honor of being the Bomoh for the evening. Then the Bomoh was introduced – producer/writer/director/actor and PH3 director of entertainment, Paul Kirkman who proceeded to provide us with an entertaining circle. He started by thanking his mother the rain for giving him the opportunity to see the nipples underneath all the wet T-shirts. First in were a group of ‘continentals’ who were having verbal diarrhoea during the circle, not calling on on during the run and holding hands throughout the run. I think the real reason was because they were French. Heartbreaker and Kwan for sharing a romantic shower. Damsel in distress was looking for water to shower and Heartbreaker offered his supply. Being a gentleman, he held the heavy container to pour while she showered. Ay Lih, you better start turning up at the hash. Jimmy, what lessons have you been giving to Kwan? Colin Hercus for falling and cutting his hand. He enjoyed it so much that he decided to fall a second time and got another cut - good things come in pairs, so say a Chinese proverb. Ima and Rambo for short cutting and a few other sinners.
On On at new Lucky Light with 6 + 1 tables. First few dishes were vegetarian with protests heard. Fortunately common sense prevail and we got some healthy meat dishes. Hare admitted later that he did not know what was on the menu and he actually thought Nick was going to stitch him up ordering a vegetarian meal. Run was judged T-shirt because 1) the infamous PH3 toilet seat was under the custody of the GM who was absent, 2) Colin threatened to resign if he gets the toilet seat and 3) the deciding factor…..Colin promised that Michelle will be the one changing the T-shirt. And so, a T-shirt it was and Michelle gave a sneak preview of her tits bra.
Happy Birthday to Elaine, Nancy and Leila who turned 18, 21 and 28 years young respectively. Welcome to one young and beautiful virgin and a few guests. Triple On at Backyard. Thanks everyone for another enjoyable Saturday.
First I have to say sorry, that my report comes so late.
The day after the run I went to Koh Samui and forgot totally about the scripe report.
Later I asked my husband to help me out but he refused, isn’t he a nice guy?! Now I’m alone with my memory and that is not very good but I try my best.
It rained cows and dogs before the run and the run side was very muddy, lucky we didn’t get stuck with our Perdana hash car.
There were 6 or 7 checks at the run and some hills. We saw oil palms and rubber trees, it was nice scenery. It was a good run and I enjoyed it very much . John, I’m sorry but I don’t remember details, after the time I get mixed up with some other runs. Unfortunately I started my notes only after the run.
First runners in were two guests: Alan and Jan May in 1h 6 min.
Last runners in were Lee and her guests Abdul and Aiman at 6.30.
Ramli got stuck with his beer truck in the mud and one of the 4 wheel cars had to pull him out. Just before the circle started it rained again and the GM decided to cancel the circle and we went to the On On at the 7 Wonders Restaurant.
The food was good and the Muslims at our table ate some of the ‘drunken’chicken.
Abraham got a mug for running 10 years with Petaling.
We had 5 virgins, some returnees and guests.
Joanna got an On Down because she said she was so wet after laying the paper. (What did they do in the jungle?)
Our guest Wencke, Arnes sister, got one for not knowing whether she is male or female.
Nancy for explaining the hash rules wrong to her guests.
The hares got a T-shirt for setting a good run.
The Triple On was in backyard.

The Porcupine Run

We gathered at the “usual run site” (Ulu Yam football field) and were ushered into parking to one side so as not to interfere with another hash who were also using this run site. (Methinks the Hare has a cunning plan here!)
At 4.30 ish we start – straight though the stream to get our feet wet immediately.
We follow the path as it winds up and left. Just after we come to a junction and the paper takes us further left to Check No. 1 The trail has to go back to the right as we are nearing the edge of the oil palm estate. But no - the check was broken forward and further left taking us parallel to the Genting Road. Soon we come to Check No. 2.
We cannot go any more left without crossing the road (and we even checked there).
It has to be a back check or to our right. Well, we spent a good 20 minutes checking all over the place. Yours truly went about 200m (I counted it!) off to the right along the terraces to no avail. I must have disturbed a pair of porcupines as first one and then ten seconds later another came running just in front of me. (If I was Chinese I would have caught them and taken them home for supper!)
Back to the run – eventually the check was broken by Mr Huge Murray – amongst the secondary jungle and only 30 metres from where I had been earlier!
I think check number 3 was broken quickly and forward as when I got there all I saw was torn paper. Up and down and up again to Check No. 4. This was a clever little back check that held us up for another 5 minutes and brought the pack back together.
Now we were going round to our right – still following the edge of the estate but going through the undergrowth until we hit the abandoned barracks / chicken farm / Japanese soldiers hide-out??? Trail now takes us onto a tarmac covered path and back into familiar territory. The paper, however, goes off the path to our right – back into the bamboo jungle and we loose track of where we are heading. Was this a circular check? (Check No. 5) I am not sure as people kept appearing back on the tarmac road from out of nowhere. We knew the direction of home and moved along that way.
At the bottom of the hill we re-join the oil palm and commence the home run-in. But what is this – paper from another hash? Is this is there just to confuse us or just to confuse them or both or neither or whatever. Anyway our paper did not go straight home but took us up to Check No 6. This was a bit pointless as we are almost home, but it did mean that yours truly could overtake the front runners and almost come home as the FROP.
In my opinion this was a very clever run in an area which was already well-known to many of us. The checks held us together. There was a good mixture of oil palm and jungle. Lots of hills though none too great. The FROP was home in approx 1hr 25 (and this despite the lengthy check No. 2). And apart from the deliberate intertwining of the papers at the end we did not interfere with the other hash nor them with us.
The On On was held at the “usual” restaurant (Lucky Like) and a good feast was had by all who stayed. Copius amounts of the amber nectar were consumed and a great day’s hashing drew to a conclusion (unless you went to the Triple On….).
Scribe – Heartbreaker.
