After what the Hare did to me last week with his German accomplice at the “Torchlight Run”I didn’t want to give a good report. After leaving my condo during the thunderous rain I thought, the gods are giving me a hand in this. Anyway I was stuck in the traffic like a lot of other Hashers and stood at a standstill outside the Renaissance Hotel for around 30 minutes. I called the GM on my mobile suggesting that he find another scribe for the run, however I would keep trying and maybe would get there late.
Anyway after what seemed a doomed day out changed, I managed to use the footpath (Malaysian style) and the road to get onto the elevated highway towards Ampang, (I’m glad I didn’t go Jln Kuching). I turned onto Hulu Klang into more traffic but at least it was moving. I got to the runsite to find a very small pack eagerly awaiting the start, as the pack was very small and no sign of the GM (Who is the GM anyway ?), I decided to delay the run by 15 minutes to allow for any late comers and the rain to start.
So the run started 15minutes late at 4:45pm in light rain, with the JM pointing the way ON ON, across a lovely stream and up a tarmac road. I decided to wait another ten minutes as at that time there was no one from the committee present at the runsite. I set off and soon came upon Uncle Looi striding purposefully through the Oil palm. The trail carried on through the oil palm with the stream on our right, I came across torn paper so I assume there was a check there. I didn’t come across any more checks as they had been filled in with, whole pieces of paper, not torn paper. Further on I passed the Hercus family, nice to see Colin back and taking part, on a road now looking down on the stream we had just left at the bottom of the hill, off to the right with the clouds now beginning to dissipate you could see the hills that we would be running back down on. The run then went left past a small temple where we kept on going up left and then eventually coming to the point where the trails split, long run and short run, I kept on the long run but somehow lost the front runners while checking and came upon paper I didn’t know whether I was going the right way or not but carried on anyway crossing a couple of small streams. We were now on the left side of the valley and looking at some beautiful scenery to our right. We carried on down the valley crossing and re-crossing small streams. I came upon Peter Brookes carrying half the Jungle in his hands (must have been talking to Su) whinging to Robb Stott about something trivial, further on I passed Stein and a bunch of others and suddenly found myself back at the run site with 8.9 klms on my GPS. There was a lot more people then started to follow me in, who had obviously got there late and decided to do the run anyway. By this time it was nice and cool and just nice to stand around having a beer and talk to people. I don’t know what time the circle started but it was dark, various people were brought up for misdemeanors from chivalrous acts, raping of the jungle even had Rachel up for asking Kojak if she could borrow his shampoo and the hare himself a number of times who kept saying “The restaurant closes at 8:30” but no one was listening to him.
I think the GM was failing in his duties having “Wanking” (Colin King) on the box, with it being Colins birthday and NO flour or eggs.
I don’t know what went on at the ON ON as I had to get back to KL, but if it was anything like the circle it must have been a good night.
By the way was there Champagne on every table with freshly caught Salmon on the menu ?
To all of you who didn’t manage to get to the run you missed a very good run and to you people who got to the run site ( Joel) and then went home, the same.
For me it was a long way out but! A very good run, I hope it got a T shirt.

Palm oil and more palm oil – a true multiple choice runsite with so many alternative paths for about 11km. This place is so open under the canopy that you can see front runners in the distance and do lots of corner cutting – which many people did. A great place for runners though and fortunately the day was cool and wet.
Our fearless leader Dave always seemed to be in the right place when checks were broken and called ON ON not with the usual bellow but faintly, so they say, – whispering Dave! We are not the SILENT HASH – we all call loudly !!
The second check was more like a coffee morning than a check. Around 50 runners standing round chatting. Michael said he would not look for the paper – he would just wait! So engrossed were they all that they ignored the ON ON call for several minutes.
Back at base, some inconsiderate SOB has built houses on our usual runsite so we were right down on the water’s edge. Nice for cooling feet though. First back was Nick, second Andy Lo, third Jane Trane. Total about 58 members and 12 guests.

A new virgin run site! Well done to the Hare for being so bold. 10 recce’s created a fantastic new Hash venue with both a normal run and a short run on the old MIMALAND grounds. How times have changed – apparently, this used to be the premier water resort in it’s day, but you would hardly recognise the place now that the jungle has reclaimed most of it and all that remains are the weather-worn entrance gate, a few shacks and the big lake.
The run itself was a good combination of hill climbing and solid running along tracks which combined jungle, rubber and grassland terrain. It started off along a side track before cunningly doubling back behind the main entrance leaving the initial front runners disappearing into the distance before they realised they were no longer on paper. The run continued through the forest to the first check and from there it was into the jungle and up the hill (there was only one, but it was big enough!). After a further 2 checks on the way up we eventually reached the top of the hill to enjoy the tremendous views over KL. I am told that without the (Indonesian?) haze it would have been even better! The run continued downwards to the split with the comfortably seated Hare ensuring there was no confusion between turning left for the shortie way home, or turning right to sweat it out some more.

Overall, there were a total of 7 well spaced out checks which were fairly easily broken and the front runners eventually came in around 18:10. Once the whole pack returned there were many accolades passed around the gossip circles around Ramli’s van that this would have been a medal run in the good ‘ole’ days. So congratulations to David, the Hare, for setting a well laid trail and his invisible co-hares Brian Sissons who did 2 recces and is now posted to Argentina and Rob Plachiak who had a cousin from UK down on the same day that he had to baby sit and had to piss off after setting the run.
With so many hashers away at the Nenasi or on family holidays, it was inevitably going to be a small circle, but this was conducted in the usual boisterous manner by African Mule or Dogshit as he is so called before continuing to the On-On somewhere opposite Batu Caves in a place called ‘Tasty House Restaurant’. The meal was excellent and everyone enjoyed the extra helping which was provided by the vacant 4th table. Deservedly so, David was awarded a T-shirt, but in the absence of Hasherdabbery this week, ladies, you will have to wait until next week to see David’s boobs!
As it is only a ½ hours drive from KL, you can count on this being the first of many visits back to the old MIMALAND site. Thanks to the Hare and see you soon.
