MINI OCTOBERFEST RUN

It was a hot and hazy afternoon. Parking was along the roadside. Just before the run, the GM broke some sad news to us. Our fellow hasher, Tony Pucinelli, passed away earlier this week. We observed a minute's silence. No, it was forty one seconds to be precise before the GM abruptly shouted on-on.
We ran out on a dusty trail for about a kilometer before getting into the forest. From there it was forest to trail to forest to trail to roadside for about ten meters and then it was back into the forest and trails with a couple of shiggy areas thrown in. The home trail was bare laterite ground, gang raped by the Catapillars. The sun was beating down on us and some of us suffered from dehydration. Our beautiful forest reserve is half gone. This place is no longer what it was.
On-on was at the Chin Heong Restaurant. Turn out was reasonable with 5 tables. The run was judged a T shirt run. Good job, Herr Knut and Herr Wolfgang.
Triple On was at the Backyard.
There's a scribe report from our GM and there are results posted at the end by CHUCK WOW. So read the whole thing!!!

Occasion: TLP Novelty Treasure Hunt Run
Scribe Report by GM for Amy Tiong
A city run and a treasure hunt thrown in: a bit different to our normal Saturday hash.
The Lodge Hotel: that brings back memories of steak sandwiches for lunch from over twenty years ago when I used to come out to Malaysia to prepare tenders for items such as the North South Highway, NKVE; which are now key links to our normal run sites. Sadly the hotel no longer functions, another prime spot for another office block or service apartments?
What time to leave for the run which way to go? I have no idea what the traffic is like on a Saturday afternoon in KL, but based on what it looks like on a weekday afternoon from the office window it will be pretty terrible. Opt for a 3:30 start from home and Dave Parks’ SMART Tunnel as this will bring us out right at the bottom of Sultan Ismail, 3 traffic lights and we are there. Right – no, did not allow that the left hand lane of Sultan Ismail will be closed so forced up right hand lane and loops around the centre of KL, but still arrived in plenty of time and get one of the 30 parking places.
A smaller pack than usual, not unexpected by some of the comments that we do not do city runs, and “I will be in Mont Kiara”, “I am doing a recce” (some good tails on this will be revealed at next week's circle)
The treasure hunt is for teams of four [4]. The organized ones even had printed T-shirts, the less organized were milling around trying to form teams. Quickly got myself organized with three young ladies only too have my hopes dashed by Don Cheang – not enough women only one per team. So kept the wife and roped in Robin and Klaus for a heavyweight team.
The hares hand out quiz, (1st half only), writing implement and plastic bags as they are expecting rain.
After a short briefing we open our quiz sheets and are off. This does not appear to be too difficult as there are maps to each location, however to win a treasure hunt you need to have a strategy. While most teams head to the Weld to find out what time it is (just after 4:30pm we are starting the run) we go to Kathy’s bar to plan our course of action. (10 beers 3 vodka tonics RM130)
Now to win a treasure hunt you must answer all the questions – so we sit down to answer all the questions. We are joined by Terry, Kun Sir Posit Tree and Mandy and they decide that Kun can write all the answers in Thai as there is no rule that English is the language to be used.
We note that the second half of the questions will be handed out next door to the Sheraton Hotel, so after a short debate on whether to use the Monorail we decide that we need the exercise and therefore we shall walk and take in a pit stop at the Hard Rock Café. Here we are able to observe the short cutters such as John Lavelle, Chu Chu, Dan and Raymond Lai. (2 jugs, 4 vodka tonics RM 115. Large complaint from Sir Posit Tree that this was costing him RM300 last night)
Make our way to the car-park next to the Sheraton, but cannot see anyone and told by attendant that all have gone. So decide to adjourn to bar on Heritage Road, Sir Posit Tree anxious to buy as two jugs of Tiger RM69++. While deciding on course of action hare walks up and asks what we are doing. Send him away to bring our second set of clues. Read clues and sort out answers and it is time to leave. Sir Posit Tree picks up bill (2 jugs, 3 vodka tonics RM 146, don’t you just love those RM 19++ vodka and tonics Les!)
Make our way back checking our answers on the way (nearly missed the last question about four {4} monkeys on the back of the sheet) and discover much to our surprise that two more teams are still out there.
Those who wanted to had a swim in the pool until the circle was called at 7:15pm.
Charges included
The hares for littering our city. This has to be the best marked run ever – you got a detail map to each check (clue point) and then the trail is marked in paper, chalk, ribbons.
Abraham and his team – he had five in the team all young and female!
Sir Posit Tree for getting the cheapest round (well trying anyway)
ON ON directions were long and difficult but could be summarized as down the steps to the pool side.
Triple ON at least for some was at Finnegans 3 to watch the rugby (no sound).
I believe that the run was enjoyed by all who attended and made a pleasant change to our normal run, but not something to be encouraged at frequent intervals.
And now to the missing question that should be included in every hash treasure hunt but was forgotten by the hares.
“Where do you find the cheapest beer on the treasure hunt”
Answer
“On a normal Saturday at this time of day, maybe the Hard Rock, but when PH3 is in town it is Ramli’s Beer Wagon.”

Petaling Hash wishes to thank and commend Chin Wing San and his supportive wife Irene, who have put in a tremendous amount of effort, commitment and logistics to make this TLP Novelty Treasure Hunt hash run within the confines of the KL Golden Triangle a very pleasant & fun-filled hashing activity. To most it was their first walk through the-other-side of the city.
To those who chose to 'avoid' these initiated city-orientated hash activities, your loss is definitely the gain of those who participated.
Treasure Hunt might be child-play to a few individuals, believe me, only those who are misguided and intellectually-challenged will want to think so. To all my local Chine brothers who forsook us to 'attend' the free Moon-cake Festival activities in Klang Valley, may we wish you a Happy Mooning Evening.
Once again, thank you Chin Wing San and Irene for a job-well-done and the wonderful hash evening at the Lodge.

A nearly 10km run amidst the fast disappearing greenery of Kajang Tech area. Overall a runners’ run, set in familiar hash terrirory, part in overgrown orchards, old rubber and some palm oil.
Yours truly broke the first check before running by a pile of dumped sports shoes which attracted the attention of none other than Ton Van Djik. We all know Dutch men run in clogs, so he became totally bewildered by the heap of abandoned shoes. After trying a few he finally decided clogs were better for running. A clever loop after the second check enabled the slower runners to move in front but the rest of the run was a succession of very easy checks which seldom delayed the front runners by more than a few seconds, resulting in a much stretched pack from the 3rd check onwards. We overheard that Uncle Louie was a key adviser to the ladies who set the run and may have been responsible for dumping 70 years of used hash shoes close to the site. CSI (Checking Slightly Inebriated) is checking this out.
By and large, the run satisfied the runners, and would certainly qualify as a good run, although it lacked the interesting features and unusual challenges that make a run truly memorable.
The JILL (female in the English hare family – Amy Ti-Ong in Chinese) was kind enough to reward all runners – and walkers – with a nice little goodie bag at the end of the track, including Tiger balm to rub on aching parts.
During the pre-circle Saru was observed trying to make money by selling massage services to none other than Opera. She was indeed claiming that kneading flesh was more rewarding than kneading cakes. Well, that certainly depends whose cakes you are kneading Saru !
The Grand Circle, clearly dominated by a bunch of mad Englishmen, was for a while the domain of Paul Kirkman who, with his stretched imagination, managed not only to extract bursts of laughter from the mob but also brought the ire of the rain god to the assembly; although that rain seemed certainly more hesitant that last week in Pangsun. Well, maybe the rain god did not understand all the English jokes – some bomoh! Ugly Mike obtained two DD for being the ugliest of the English and still getting the maid’s preferred attention while Don Cheong and Nan informed the faithful of next week’s ECO friendly run in the middle of the city. (Yes, it’s very ECO-nomical as you don’t need to drive far away to get to the runsite).
Zuan Kee was once again the selected restaurant for today’s buka puasa.

Kojak the Botak
Paul Smith says you will kill yourself passing like that on Jalan Pangsun. I was late. Arriving to see a few others pander past the new adventure camp with its lines and wires for swinging from tree to tree.
Perhaps it is Kojak of the Jungle
He has control of the apes
He has control of the monkeys
But the same is not so
With these Hashmen flunkies
Catching up with these stragglers we hunt around in a swampy area having missed the paper up the adventure camp fenceline. It was a short but extremely greasy slip slide to the top.
His biceps are like iron
His triceps are like steel
You never once find him
Slipping on a banana peel
From here, it was reasonably fast paced to an open area where we encountered none other than Opera and GM Hugh having turned around – enough for us. Pursuing the open path to the top we encounter a milling crowd (Gary Murell, Uncle Soo, Klaus amongst others) about to follow the footsteps of Opera and Hugh.
His GPS is solid
His pace is most unhurried
His sense of direction keen
He has these wankers worried
Right. Off you go back and off I go forward and shortly bump into the back markers. A bevy of beauties single-filing through the jungle in an ever upward direction. More slop, on the really only trail up the valley. Onward. Gradually passing the column as the trail starts the anticipated anticlockwise move through the orchard to the only other trail heading down the valley.
He sets a nifty check
Along and beside a hut
Ripped paper going everywhere
We find ourselves in a rut
Finally, the paper was resolved to head back up the valley for another loop. Making headway through familiar jungle to the stream where Ah Wan is having a bath. – SAFETY MOVE - I cross upstream and able to get a bit of speed to one last loop and then another for good measure. After a short and slippy descent to the main road, a little cross country to bring us back home through the swampy bit we started in.
Kojak of the Jungle
Had everything under control
Except for that bloody great thunderstorm
He was really on a roll

Let me state upfront that this is a good run… For those who did not come for it because of the 3 - day Merdeka holiday stretch you ready miss it. Of course some of the “expatriate” and “empowered” would claimed that the delights of East Coast, “Up North” and elsewhere will be more than compensate for it….Just show $$$
Our drive from KL to Semenyih was interspersed by heavy rains and drizzles. Traffic was light. We arrived at the run site at about 4.10pm after sighting strange big birds in enclosed space. The way in is ragged and dusty as this is orchard, durian and rubber estate country. As we touched basis with the ragged crowd (counted about 40 odd souls) we found that most of the committee members are enjoying themselves elsewhere.
We have one of the senior hasher to start off the run. As if, somebody has prayed for a sunny weather, the “Matahari” decided to grace its presence with a full blast of Vitamin D. It looks hot and feels hot. We start the run up a steep hill slope and gladful for the miserable low vegetation cover before we hit the first check. Due to the lack of FROP, we have some difficulty in breaking the 2nd check where the falsies is pretty tough to break.
The run crossed some durian and some other type of fruits orchards and a few rubber hills. Thank to the relatively high price of rubber, we find that the rubber estates are generally well maintained and we do not come under the mozzie attacks as earlier anticipated. However the ground is hard and make running tough for some of the ‘older” folks. We wondered why the hares did not use the watery areas… Maybe he is using his new shoes as some bemused.
The first runner is in 1 hour 15 minutes and Emilia come in about 2 hour plus. We all think it is a good run.
For those who are still planning to search for a lost RM45,000 “Rolex watch in Commonwealth Park, we have bad new. The owner managed to find it after 3 days desperate search with a metal detector. For this run, Guinness Khoo I understand, stick to the paper trial and armed with a 45,000 rupiah “branded” watch. His misfortune will be entered into the PH3 legend of the “Man who lost an RM45k Rolex watch”… until some of you want to up the antics… Of course some people still debated whether it is a “Petaling Street Rolex” or otherwise.. Guinness… you may want to get Rolex Dealer to validate your claim.
By 7.30pm, it getting dark and Heaven decided to let go its frustration with a heavy downpour. I do not know what the rating for this run is as I too need to go off for another engagement. …. It is Post Merdeka Day lah…
