As the appointed scribe was away enjoying himself at the SHOT in West Java, Indonesia, he asked me to scribe on his behalf. I shall remain anonymous for obvious reasons.
The turnout was only about half the usual size, probably due to the SHOT. The weather was kind to us, it being somewhat overcast when the rest of the Klang Valley experienced severe thunder storms.
Fortunately for us, we were not located closer to the Philippines.
On-on was called by a look-alike GM as the GM was away at the SHOT.
The pack strolled past the factories into rubber, zigzagging the RRI rubber trees towards the collapsed concrete pipe bridge and across the river, or a wide dirty drain, depending on what you considered it to be. Check was called a short distance ahead at the T-junction. There was a falsie going towards the RRI quarters. The Frops turned back and ran uphill into more rubber, across a paved lane and further up towards the road to Sg Buloh and skirting the secondary jungle.
Paper took the runners up the hill and back again in the direction of the paved lane, with a detour halfway up the ridge of the hill and then down slope towards the collapsed bridge. Paper then turned right into more sparse and level rubber territory and onto the perimeter path and across a still standing concrete bridge.
The landscape on the right of the perimeter path changed for the worse since my last run there a couple of months back. The land there was totally cleared. Sad. The run exited the rubber through a construction site. More precisely, through a building being constructed. In summary, it was, as expected, a runners' and walkers' run/walk. Not a bad Saturday's afternoon stroll through the woods of RRI, feeding the millions of mosquitoes.
As usual, at this runsite, we were entertained to a RC model aeroplane show.
On-on was at an old favourite, Garden World. There was a moderate turnout of 4 tables. As always at Garden World, the food was great.
The "chili chicken" was "ass burning". I guess that was to be expected when Ms. Tanga Chee orders dinner.

On that day I was rather pleased with the good weather. Around 2.30 pm while driving on the way to the run site using the old road with Raymond at the wheel as usual.
While stopping at Serendah traffic lights near the BHP petrol station approx. 20 minutes to run site, a black CRV suddenly cut into our lane from the left. What a horrible typical Malaysian driver. When I turned my head, I realized it was Tommy Chin at the wheel grinning sheepishly. As soon as the lights turned green, he sped past and soon out of sight and out of mind.
We reached the site with only 5 minutes to get ready. At 4.30 pm sharp with no sign of GM but Don Cheang giving instructions and directions of paper laid to be followed for all and especially the guests to be on the lookout. Don announced that Alistair would be leaving for Japan soon, those would like jump on him for the last time would have to do so. Don saw me and reminded of my scribe for that day.
I recalled going through oil palm plantations passing through several circulars followed by rubber tree plantations. During this time I was pleasantly greeted by the sight of a long lost hasher and guess who … Virginia. She has been away with Daniel in Dubai and they are back for good.
There was this long narrow trail with barbed wire fencing situated on the left which I have to trudge through endlessly going uphill. Nevertheless, I managed to sail through without too much fuss. By now Patrick Russel and 2 others have caught up. I heard that he just came back from outstation … reason for being late.
After sometime, we came to a large clearing obviously targeting for some development. Some of the hashers were already well ahead of me by the time I struggled to the top. As I was a wee bit tired, I missed the paper trail on the left. By now Isaac, Lee Heard and Cameron (Patrick Russel’s son) were just behind me. All of us continued together including another girl brought by Lee Heard, had just joined us. Instead of the trail, we found some falsies. Isaac and Lee Heard decided to go separate ways to look for paper but to no avail after wasting 25 minutes. We then decided to back-track and soon Lee Heard spotted the paper towards to the right that led to the home trail. What a relief! By the time we reached the site it was already 7.20 pm. I overheard conversation that the Co-mic did not join up the papers properly at certain checks, but thanks to Abraham and Raymond, who joined some of the checks. A point to ponder, why is it that Co-mic on that day did not close all checks? A Chinese looked like a Co-mic with a horn was asked what are the responsibilities of a Co-mic. The answer was: I was asked to carry the horn, that’s all.
On my way to the beer wagon, I saw Daniel bathing with Virginia holding a towel shielding him from the many stares … (That’s Daniel’s style of bathing with car parked half a km away & usually in the dark). With Paul Kirkman as Bomoh, both were given an on down at the circle for bathing in broad daylight and also as returnees. Patrick Russel had to go home as his “BMW” fuel pipe was ruptured. A look alike was called for on down on his behalf.
Alistair was called up for ending his days of bachelorhood. He had a wonderful time holding four SYT (sweet young things) one at a time as a farewell gesture.
As for celebrating his birthday, Sen was given a cold shower on ice by a few beautiful ladies namely Featherlight, Alyvea, Soon Hui and Clancie who enjoyed thoroughly bathing him with soap and water.
Next came Alistair’s birthday which is another round of soapy wash on ice in a sexy pose surrounded by the lovelies. Somebody was calling “get more soap with beer”. Paul Kirkman commented that it is bias against foreigners compared with locals. Foreigners get cakes baked on their heads with flour, eggs, cigarettes and candles whereas locals get a nice scrub down with soap and water by the ladies.
Paul further charged the previous GM Huge Malay (Hugh Murray) & Nan for forgetfulness: a backdrop for the stage during Torchlight Run last year was left with someone. It was Paul who had the courtesy in keeping it all this while. Again, the backdrop had been ‘pushed’ to Paul for safekeeping. It was a convenient way to push away responsibility by ex-GM. Hmm…..
At the On On at Lucky Like Restaurant, Patsy was called and awarded as the first runner on paper who made it to the beer wagon while the others cut across. Hurray !! Jimmy was also called as he was wearing the pink pants where this is how Patsy used to rip off him during the nights … Ha ! Ha !. As usual we have Abraham delivering his theme song “Father Abraham” and got almost everyone in a trance.
I was charged for wearing proper Hash attire: both shirt and shorts with Merdeka Day 49th Run.
A great evening for all.

On On : Good food – RM10 with delicious chestnuts.

The run started on time at 4.30pm. Nice weather, the front runners took off as fast as they could, thinking it would be the usual long run. The trail proved being in the beginning the usual one where earlier runs also start off from. It went over two hills, leading everybody climbing up steep old rubber terraces. As usual this kind of terrain segregates the power hashers from the ‘walkers in the park. The check, however, were good keeping the pack all together. Only about the last 2 km from the beer proved being a good running trail. It was the usual home trail by the back of the temple. The 1st runner in made it in 1 hour 36 minutes.
As usual a circle was held at the run site. Charges were filed and news announced, including the following highlights:
• Mike Clark was called up for being a ‘Cheap Charlie’ asking Paul Smith for borrowing a Hash T-shirt. Celine gave him an on-down for this tight pocket.
• Paul Smith will not be hashing for the next 1 year due to knee surgery. He got an on-down for this excuse.
• A guest that came with Angie was making money out of the hashers by marketing her product at the run site. This atrocity also carried the mandatory on-down for both.
The Hash adjourned at a local Chinese restaurant “Mine” not far away from the run site. On 7 tables were happy hashers enjoying good food. The run was awarded a deserved T-shirt.
Another on-down scecion was held in the restaurant and guests were called up, among them Richard, Jimmy, Paul Smith, Mike Clarke etc. The procedures were apparently stretching too long but everyone enjoyed the night at last.
