It was another very hot day as we headed out from Ampang, over the top and down past the Seminyeh dam to “Ye Olde Ostrich Farm”. On the way we passed Nirvana, also known as “the dead centre of Selangor”. Turnout was good with c 100 cars at the run-site despite “only one HHH sign” – but we were warned and this is hardly an unknown location for the HHH
Several ‘rare’ faces were seen including “Chan Larry Chan” from the UK with slightly less of a wash-board stomach than he used to have. Too much warm ale, obviously. Also Nick Grantham, who was never known to have had a wash-board stomach anyway. And the lovely Emma and even Greg Dall who has now been to two runs in a row! A post 9/11 record, I think.
Also rather a lot of dogs, which some people disapprove of but I think keep away the snakes not to mention parang wielding watch relievers etc. As long as they don’t bite any HHH’ers.
And so into the rubber and up the hill. It was HOT, HOT, HOT – thankfully the hares kept nearly all of the run in the shade. There was a slight lack of over-taking opportunities especially in the uphill sections which meant your scribe – starting late as usual - spent the first part of the run stuck behind a big, bouncy, female backside. Unfortunately it belonged to Indi, the Kirkman’s dog…..
And so it went – more up, more down, more round and about. The run was nearly all rubber with a few welcome streams for HHH’ers and dogs to cool their feet in. As you would expect from a Guinness run, there was plenty of paper and no excuse for anyone to get lost!
Overall, this was a relatively short run only 6km but sensible on a very, very hot day with clear skies and the temperature hitting the high 30C’s (that’s almost 100F in old money). And it was pretty hilly albeit with no killer-climbs.
So it seemed much longer. Seldom was the beer wagon more welcome and the 100+ was glugged down at a record rate (note to self – must remember to invest in F&N shares). Front runners were back in under 1hr 20 with the pack quite close together around the 1hr 30 mark.
Around 7.15 the circle was convening when the skies threatened to open and your scribes having put in an exceptionally long day with a 5 am start for a Saturday morning recce, called it a day and headed for home.
However, the rest of the scribe report would probably have read (delete as appropriate) [filled in by Onsec]
There was a circle - which [started late due to prolonged heavy rain and] went on a bit too long
There were 4 / 5 / 6 tables at the On-On. The food was good but had too much MSG [The food was FREE - thanks to the hare]
There was another circle at the resto - which also went on a bit too long
The hare did /did not get a T shirt [DID get one]
There was / was not a triple on which was / was not at the Backyard
Another good Saturday afternoon out with the PH3!

Better late than never. Apologies to the hare for hash lethargy. Just fired up by the hash challenge.
What I clearly remember about the run was the start, the finish and the beer wagon being moved. The latter can be quite unnerving to an old hasher, quite a disorienting experience.
The start was a farce, a few set off up the correct trail as directed by the GM and had climbed a bit when dog sh*t (for it was he) called on in a different direction. We have no idea why. So, after some toing and froing the trail was reentered (like a familiar wet tunnel) and the run got underway.
Conditions were hot and dry, the first check was up and to the left easily broken down and to the right by Peter.
The second check was in a nice patch of heather surrounded by rabbit sh*t at the top of a hill in belucar (spell check doesn't work). Good trails so far and broken downhill.
Then it got a bit tougher, more like hash challenge territory, treacherous underfoot with all the cane from the ferns and the rotan, single filing and steep, but ok. I liked the frog calls and wonder if you can get them for a mobile ringtone.
Later the trail opened out into oil palm which is good running country streams, birds, estate roads and the like. Running on terraces with a view to one side of lower terraces is an old favourite and the hare got it right.
The last stretches saw the packs back into secondary rainforest and by then we could smell the cooling stream. On leaving the cover the heat was there and the brick gate pillars looked like ancient monuments in Ayutthaya. The trail veered to the right across a gravel plain and into a stream.
Most runners short cutted the last section and missed the cooling river section, just because you can see the cars does not mean you can walk home down the nice gravel road.
The stream was fine but deep in places and dodgy for non-swimmers. Some of us floated down as much as possible while some more who did not exactly short cut, walked along the bank looking down onto the stream, not wanting to get their feet wet I suppose.
Finally the hare and co-hare came into view with a cooling beer or three, a very good ending.
The circle was memorable.
The onon was at the Lucky Light restaurant at the Genting crossroads nearby. A whole day without rain, excellent juju. The run was awarded a T shirt and quite right too.

Chinese New Year - Sau Kong Run
The afternoon started ominously with rain clouds hanging over the distant horizon as I set off for this Sau Kong Run of PH3.
Things were still holding up as I arrived at the run site, a bit delayed by the traffic caused by Duties being exacted by the Polis DiRaja shortly after the giant golf ball along the old ipoh road.
The pack had set off by the time I arrived leaving me and a few other late comers like Soh Kam Eng and Father Abraham.
And then the heavens opened and it rained and it poured. All this as the trail hit the first climb at which point I came across Jo and her 2 faithful companion deciding that the hill was too steep and with the rain too slippery and she was right.
I soon caught up with the rest of the pack but not enough to be able to report on the checks and how and when they were broken.
The run then split with the short run veering left and the long run to the right. The long run was good offering great scenery and nice running right until home base. In all the GPS recorded 10.1km on the long run.
Back at the beer wagon, the hare had arranged for the distribution of free commemorative t-shirts to coincide with the coming year of the Tiger. Great t-shirts!! I could not stay for the on on and so am not able to report on the official rating of the run. But going by the comments made in response to the posting by the hare of the photos taken of the evening (http://picasaweb.google.com/alvinph3/CNYSauKongJaoRUN5thFeb2010), which clearly speak for themselves, the run would have been rated excellent which I wholly agree with.

Like most other Saturdays before, I thought it would rain, making the fertile soil slippery and washing away that delicate paper. Well, the day looked like it was going to rain on us, luckily, it didn't(there was a few puddles). Forget the weather. I did the run, the medium run for only the first check, the trail was ok, then there was amazingly fertile soil right on the hills, they were tough to climb but it was worth the challenge. Well, I chickened out of the medium thinking the rest was more hills(no offence), so I went to the short run, there goes my dignity. The short run was short for an average runner, about thirty minutes or so. Like the medium run and the long run, it had a hill, but unlike the one in the medium, oh my goodness, it's steeper and harder to climb, even a dog about nine inches couldn't go up the first step without help. No matter, they never said we could hold on to the tea plant stem. Even on the short run, the sights were extravagant, in fact, I could see my dad's truck. I may have not run in medium run or long run, but my brother had given me an idea what the medium run. It wasn't much though, he said it was up hill, then flat, then hill, then flat and that's as much as he told me. When I got back, there was the drinks(no Ramli). But! There was free rose red strawberry covered in enriched cream, too bad I didn't get any of it, but from what I heard, it was good. It was there because it was someone's birthday.
Then there was the circle which I paid no attention what so ever. But it wasn't because it was boring, it was just that I didn't hear anything. Alas, the On On at the TIttiwangsa Hotel, where we had steam boat, but unfortunately for some of us, we were in the corners which was surprisingly warm and that was no good, especially for me because I had a fever. The was okay, I would've liked it better if we had a little bit of spice, well, that's just my opinion. It was all good, and then there was free beer, not for me, due to some unfortunate excess of beer that needed to be finish. Eventually, the night came to an end and we all had a great time.
