Run-site: Nirvana ("Semenyih Memorial Hills"), SungeLalang
Hares: Jerry French, Noko Ayr and Oscar

Oh crap, another Jerry French Run. Let's go through the list:
- Run delayed a week, check.
- No directions until the last minute, check.
- Reused trail, check.
- No recces, check.
Typical Jerry French.
Fortunately, this time Jerry had chosen a nice Mother Hash route to copy, and his trusty co-hares -- Noko Ayr (anyone know him?) & Oscar -- provided sound advice while laying paper.
The run was one of the flattest in recent memory and provided a nice mix of highways, palm estates, jungle tracks, construction zones, fish ponds, and farmers' backyards. Oh yes, and lots and lots of trail - 14+km if you did the whole thing. By the end, "finding Nirvana" was on everyone's mind, and those that made it had Jerry's now-famous rocket-fuel-laced punch (thank you!) waiting for them. No 35 minute run this time!
The circle saw our GM dressed as an orange-frocked monk for Wesak. Should the GM ever decide to repent all of his whore-mongering and change his sinful ways, he could do quite well begging for his daily rice. Other notables included Russell as the Jolly Green Giant complete with green Crocs (WTF!), and Paul Smith, who showed up with boxing gloves looking to fight any Aussies (girls, that its). Toasts also went to Jimmy who reached another birthday (67!?) still without having a single gray hair.
On-on was at the famous Zuan Kee where the food came plentiful and fast this time-- which was good as most people had run out of fuel on the run. Then some kids (not mine!) nearly destroyed the place and themselves, but disaster was averted and we will be allowed back in the future. For his efforts, the French-man was awarded a T-shirt despite some grumblings in the back rows. Regardless, it was a nice, flat run (a welcome change!) and an impressive feat to set a 14km trail with a three year old co-hare whilst carrying all of the paper and flour yourself!

Most of what I do remember is getting to Manuel's house for a lift to the run. Manuel is outside, getting a taste of our bright future.. a nice house with no electricity to run it. He's calling TNB. Manuel is truly Malaysian.. no rush to get to the run. Bye and bye we do go and park in a nice area up from where most of the others were parked, in one of Lim GT's daughters failed projects. Nice houses here, bit unfinished. I remember it was a good day, great view. GM Mike was probably wearing a feathered boa or something from his usual wardrobe I'm sure. We start off up the road pass the houses and there was a big drain I remember. The rest is a complete haze except that we came back via a dusun near the entrance. It was a great run for which the hare deservedly got a T-shirt. I'm told there were 5 tables at the on-on and great shenanigans at the runsite and restaurant I'm sure but I was zooming down to SierraMas in Manuels truck. Thanks for the great run.

Runs site was at a well used location on Ulu Rening roads however as our old parking area was cut off we were parked by the road. No problem, still lot's of area to park.
On On was called at 4:30pm and to my surprise the run started on opposite side of the road to usual, an area I hadn't run before. We didn't get far before the first check and it caught me out as it was a back check and I'd been checking forward. I cut through the bush following calls of On On until I found the pack again. By this time we were running in the creek which was to become a major feature of the run. The next few checks were all near the tops of hills with On On being called back in the creek. Who'd have guessed, knowing who the hares were?!
The run then moved into some rubber plantation with a few more tricky checks before splitting into long and short. I took short, which was a nice downhill run taking us down to the road with a rather uninteresting 1km run down the road to get back to the cars.
On On was at old Lucky Light, and the run was awarded a T-shirt.

After an easy ride over the Ampang Ulu Langat road we arrived surprisingly early at the run site. There was not much parking left. The valet parking spot in front of the house of the vegetable planter was already taken up. A car was parked right on his door step. I had to turn my car around to find a parking spot in the rough.
The run was started off by the grand master by warning the visitors to stay on paper as we were entering jungle terrain. This was not picked up by Dr. GPS and Isaac who trusted the GPS rather than the paper.
The run had a good warm up section with a flat run towards the first check. It allowed the legs to be stretched without the need for a hard uphill struggle. This struggle would come later on in the run. A simple back check was broken very fast and the run continued uphill through some old rubber.
We were running back towards the run site which would finish the run far too early. Two false trails were called. The false trails delayed the run by almost 30 minutes. Due to the narrow paths the front runners took some time to get past the pack to check out the area. Finally the trail was called back uphill. It was single file all the way uphill. I found myself once again right at the back of the pack as I had checked forward.
I believe there was one check in the long uphill section. A narrow path with many trips and rattan wound along the top of the hill. After being rescued twice by Mike from the thorns and the trips, I was shown the home trail by Daniel who had found the trail in thick undergrowth.
From there on it was downhill all the way. A last check did not stop the front runners who kept running straight through the check. The home trail gave a good opportunity to run.
The first runner arrived in 1.5 hours. Dr. GPS and Isaac managed to arrive just before darkness. They decided not to follow paper as the GPS showed a very short route back home in the direction of the road. It took them a bit longer than initially anticipated. We suggest to leave the GPS at home and follow the paper instead as also mentioned by the Grand Master at the start of the run.
After a few refreshing drinks I went back to the car to have a shower. Before I could finish my shower, many cars left the run site. That is a bit unusual to see so many cars leaving at 7 o'clock. Was the beer finished? Then I was told that the vegetable farm owner was not so happy with the parking of cars on his doorstep. He started demanding parking fees. He was not happy with the offered amount and consequently the hash had to vacate the area.
The circle was moved to the car park of the restaurant "The Beer Garden" in Hulu Langat. The beer truck did not show up. However some beer was provided. After the circle we could walk straight in the restaurant and then straight out again. All seats were reserved. The junior hashers, who were with me, opted to eat in the western restaurant Chestnut in Ampang instead (behind the De Palma hotel - the location for that Hash Challenge registration party on April 30th). Live music was provided. Chu Chu and John Lavelle were also enjoying the music in the Chestnut. This could be a triple on location.
The parking at the run-site was not so well selected. Permission was not obtained from the landlord. The interruption of the proceedings after the run spoiled the event. Otherwise it was a good run.

7th International Hash Challenge plus normal PH3 run for the faint-hearted

Bugger - thought I did not need to write this report web page is down and the temporary web page has no where to post scribe reports. Why does Emilia ring me and says have you seen the new web page it looks really nice? Generally agree but some of the photographs are not that flattering at the top of the page.
1st May 2010 and Petaling are setting two [2] runs Run 1729 of our normal Saturday's and the 7th Hash Challenge. I have taken a much more low key for this Hash Challenge but I still have Waterstop 2 to man.
Maid has been briefed night before to get tea ready and cool box paced. Alarm clock goes off at 6:00pm intention to leave Mont Kiara at 6:30, same time as buses from Ampang so should beat them to Gombak. Manage 6:30pm but do not beat buses to start of Hash Challenge Run. Never mind the runners have not left yet and they all look fit and healthy. Eventually set off just after 7:00pm and it is time for the helpers to adjourn to Melawati for makan and collect supplies for the waterstops.
Water stops are to be run like clockwork - Swiss Clockwork - problems
1. Large Swiss Gentleman, in charge of waterstops has forgotten to set his cuckoo clock to get up in the morning
2. Experienced waterstop people in the form of Dog Shit and White Raja forgot their tables - they were definitely on the list of items to be provided by the waterstop teams not the club.
3. Wagon with water cannot get up hill to waterstop 1 and water needs to be transferred to 4 wheel drives
4. 012 numbers will not work at Waterstop 2 will 019 work? (it does)
After leisurely lunch move to waterstop which is only 10 minutes away at the back of Ukay Perdana. Finished housing estate but not handed over allows us to set up on tarmac in the sun. Stretch an additional tarp out to provide more shade for when the runners come in as it is going to be hot in the middle of day. Hares predict that first runners will arrive at 11:00am and the cut off time is 2:30pm.
Allocate duties - I take signing in the runners, Nan signing out rest of team told keep an eye on the supplies but just let the runners do there own thing.
Set up chair under shade of very small sapling at 11 and wait. First runner in at 11:45, by now sun is nearly vertical and shade from small sapling is smaller than the bald spot on my head - luckily I am wearing a hat but it is hot and can feel myself dehydrating. Sweepers arrive at 2:00pm feeling very smug with themselves for a job well done. Minor problem there is still three [3] runners unaccounted for. There other team mate is already in and luckily he can contact them on the phone. They had missed a turning on the major track and proceeded without paper, but they are on their way and back on paper. All runners who are proceeding plus sweepers have left by 2:30pm. Eight dropouts so far at WS1 and WS2 combined.
Pack up the run site carefully stash the rubbish and leave about 3:15 for Taman Agrotek, arriving just after 4 and set up remainder of fruit, ORS in case any finishers want them.
A reasonable size pack of about 60 especially considering we have about 20 people on the Challenge and probably 40+ helping on the day. Still suffering from sitting three [3] hours in the sun and decide not to do the run instead drink large amounts of water. Shortish run of only 1 hour but is judged a T shirt - well done, but how does the new judging system work, perhaps the Committee would like to inform the members it might help them put the correct weighting to their judgments.
Hash Challenge first runners and team in about 5:45 (10.5 hours+ for 46km) only 5 full teams out of 30 finish and only 51 or 53 runners depends who you talk to out of 120 actually finish. Are there two still out there!). The GM said we had set a Challenge and they had accepted it. I think they probably found it a challenge. Only 4 people went to hospital but all released in time to get to the run site for the evening.
Last off the site with the GM, Nan and Emilia and about 10:30 - another long hashing day like the week before.
If you think there is nothing about the actual runs you are correct but then it is described as a "Scribe Report" not "Run Report".
ON ON
Mother Sheep.
P.S. (added by Onsec) Thanks very much to the 40+ PH3 members (Hugh's estimate above) and others who contributed hours, days or weeks of their time to ensure that 20 PH3 members and 100 other runners survived a very challenging Hash Challenge and had an excellent day, whether they got a finisher's t-shirt or not!
We hope Kamikaze's heavy cold / fever / bubonic plague is better now.
