53rd Merdeka Day Run

The last time I scribed for Petaling H3 was in 2009 and the run was in the same area as today's. Two phrases that I used then were still applicable: "stuck in the traffic in Rawang" and "the lovely smell of durian wafting through the car".
The big difference this time was that the conditions were excellent for a hash run - dry and sunny. I arrived just as the pack was disappearing into the river and after learning that Rambo was helping the hare I decided to join a group of select walkers who did not actually complete the run.
By all accounts it was quite good at about 10km in typical Rambo country, going up and down a few hills with several river crossings, some bamboo and tricky jungle trails etc. For some reason the hares had decided to replace the more traditional 'BEER' stop with a 'BEE' one on this run and several hashers were stung.
The first runners back were a group of 3 guests who came in at about 6:10 and the following pack was then quite spread out with the last ones in at about 7pm. The hares gave out very nice T-shirts to commemorate today's auspicious "Merdeka Day" run. Unfortunately many of our regular hashers missed today's event preferring instead to play boy scouts and girl guides on some sort of camping trip?
Joint Mistress Charlotte started the circle by calling in the hares. She then requested her mystery bomohs who, of course, were all Malaysians today. First up was Yoong Nim Chee who charged .... He then called up two of the front runners who had first-hand experience of the 'BEE' stop. Apparently one of them got himself stung on purpose in quite a strange place as some sort of penis enlargement exercise. The next bomoh was Tommy Chin who charged ....
Charges from the floor included on-sec and well-known local guest hasher, Ah Kah, both charging Emilia about the guest fees today. Ah Kah complained that the fee was too high and on-sec explained the following: "One unfortunate guest cut herself during the run and was bleeding a lot when she came back. However, even as she was being driven away quickly to be seen by a doctor Emilia still managed to extract the guest fee from her!"
There were 8 tables at the ON-ON and all was free for the day as it was *MERDEKA*
Mazda Khoo was charged for loaning the largest Malaysian Flag to fly upon a guest Sam's vehicle on this auspicious day.
Dog shit a.k.a. Jimmy Leggett charged all those not wearing the shirt that was given to then earlier.
Patsy Yap and Shirley Tan both received their 15 year Mugs on this special evening.
Lastly Manuel charged Mama San (Cliffena), Maria, Chai Leng, Lee Kim Keet and Nini for their Friday night hunting season at the Backyard Pub.
Thanks to all Malaysians for a great effort and a lovely evening.

Went to the run with Aileen D after picking 2 guests at BSC. There was the usual crawl at the traffic to Semenyih but we still arrived to the runsite in good time. A pack of about 125 hashers and kids assembled.
I have run in Broga a couple of times but this is a new runsite which is normally used by MOTHER. The GM warned us to stay on paper as this was the run-site where the late Guinness Khoo fell into a cave on one of their runs before his demise. The weather was fine but very humid and off went the pack for a serious climb.
There were some late comers as in guest and also our members and after signing them in I went into the run about 5 pm to try and do the trail which was definitely a steep climb all the way mostly single file. In front of me were 3 guests with a very big German Shepherd.
Thirty minutes into the climb Gary Murrell, Chai Leng, Amy Burnley and her mum were all descending and going back home as they found the hill all too steep and too hard and said they had enough for the day. I carried on up at my own pace and finally reached the top at about 6pm. From this point I knew I was not going to continue on, afraid of being late and lost decided to go back the same way to the beer truck. In front of me was a very exhausted German Shephard breathing rather heavily with its masters surrounding it trying to lift its spirits. Poor dog was going through some heat wave syndrome.
First runner in was Opera Cheong in an hour 30 minutes. The whole pack was back before 7pm. Peggy Schoemarker and a German Guest decided to do the run in reverse as they started very late. They came in around 8pm.
JM Bob did the charges at the circle.
Guest Big spender & Joselyn was iced for arriving back to the runsite on a motor bike which was displayed by another guest, Polish My Dick
Ted Parslow, Colin Hercus and Paul Smith were chosen to feel and judge the nice tight Miri butts of Big Spender, Jocelyn and Celyn in the range of 1-10 and all of them were rated 8-10.
There were 8 tables at the restaurant and since food served was a bit slow as the turn up was too many, a few of the hashers started to exercise their singing ability. It was difficult to stop this singing frenzy which comprised of Charles Lee/Opera/Roger Gregson/Paul Smith/John Belgrave and the hare Russell included.
More charges at the restaurant which I really can't recall now but all in all it was a really great evening, very good food, a different restaurant ambience from the norm. I can guarantee all went home tired but surely very happy.
Thank you hares for another wonderful weekend.

I'm writing this scribe report in order to pay penance to Emelia for using rather 'flowery' language to describe her run. I stick by my message, but the language I used was a wee bit 'over the top'! The decision to write the report was taken a week later, so details are rather sketchy.
Setting off from KL the weather was fine, as were the run directions - except for the last bit where we were supposed to park after the ranch near a hot spring. The hares parked at the ranch and I never saw the hot spring all afternoon.
The GM, sporting his new hair (style), called the pack to order on time, but there was one ominous portent of the run. We were told to take plenty of water because he understood that the run was long - how right he was!
So, the pack dawdled along over plantation roads up to the first check, which took some time to break - although it was considered by most to be 'legal'. This is more than can be said about the second one, which was a 'monster'. So much so that it was only broken after frantic phone calls to the Hare asking for directions. This took so long that some lost interest completely and walked back to the run site. Eventually the pack moved off to the third check, which also took an age to break. Goodness knows if the trail was 100 m or so from the check 'as the crow flies', but it seemed about 400 m as the runners run.
Details of the remaining checks are lost in a fog of pain and fatigue. However, after nearly 2 hours and a lengthy run in down a road (why?) we ended up at Emelia's drink stop. Very welcome, but she greeted me with the words 'I know Charles Lee will be very angry with me'. How right she was so I obliged with an outburst of profanities. Humble apologies Emilia, I went over the top.
So, after refueling we all thought it was a gentle trot in to the run site. How wrong we were because there was yet another mountain range to climb over. I was with Bob the Builder who, nose to his GPS, kept saying incredulously 'we are not getting any closer, it is only 1 km away but in the other direction!'
The front-runner arrived back at the run site after about 2 hours with others straggling in over the next hour or so. Festivities were muted by fatigue and also the weather, because the rain started to bucket down. So much so that the GM abandoned the run site and went directly to the restaurant (Lucky Like) so that he wouldn't spoil his new hair do. It was left to the die-hards (about a dozen) to hold the circle. The only down-down I remember is 2 Geordies (Duck's Arse and a visitor called Billabong) for supporting a pathetic football team called Newcastle United.
The circle at Lucky Like welcomed a multitude of guests and the run was awarded a 'down down'. I was invited to have a down-down for my remarks to Emelia and the next week had to grovel on my knees in front of her. A fitting reward!

Directions to the runsite was excellent… but where were the hash signs? Haha.. Anyway was early and there was plenty of parking at the road shoulder.
The run itself was through the oil palm plantation. We were running mostly on the plantations dirt track so it was a relatively easy run
On-on was back in a restaurant in Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh. The food served was good, enjoyed it very much.
The Hare received a t-shirt for his effort.. Congratulations.
